Welcome :D You could adopt a dog from a rescue! One that is already house trained.. There are many dogs out there that are good tempered and need loving homes because they were given away or lost at some point. There are many different breeds you could choose. Just go out there and search and you'll know when you find the right one.

For the shedding issue, there are a couple of dogs that are low shedding. Maltese, poodle, schnuazers, and a couple of others

You can also look on the AKC website for different breeds. There are all sorts of sizes of dogs that dont shed at all... but will need grooming every 6 weeks and brushed out fairly regularly.

Standard Poodle, Portugese Water Dog, Bichon, Mini and Toy Poodle, Schnauzer, Maltese are the ones that come to mind right now. And no matter what you're told... mixes of these breeds are NOT guarenteed to NOT shed.
