Hi,
I am new to this and have what might be a really stupid question but I am going to ask anyway. I have a female Italiam Greyhound that is in heat. I also have a male puppy (he is 8 months old) that we just had neutered on May 15. I found them connected this morning and I was wondering if there is a possibiltiy that she may get pregnant. A few people that I have talked to said yes and a few people said no.....HELP!!!!! Any answers??????

Thanks alot in advance for any info!!!!

Danielle

Yes, live sperm can live in the male for a few months.

There is DEFINATELY a possibility.

I'd get her to the vets asap. There is a shot that you can give your female, its like "Birthcontrol" if something like that happens.

Is she a show dog at all??

If not, I'd think of spaying as well :) Heats are very annoying to have to go through twice a year! Trust me lol Our Female Sheltie, is just finishing her heat cycle now

Why aren't you spaying her? Ask your vet about the pregnancy.
Did the OP ask "should i spay my dog"???
Answer the question if you reply and then say what-ever else you feel the need to say!!

I don't know much about this but i would say that if the male was "Done" then he cannot produce Sperm??
Therefore no Pregnancy could occur!
I am sure that i will be corrected if i am wrong though :D

Thanks alot Bailey+Ralph. I just got off the phone with my vet and he actually said that I should have nothing to worry about. I thought that once the male was in her and he ejeculated that he was the one that held on, not her, which would lead me to beleive that she would have been able to get pregnant in my case. But the Doc says that it is the female that holds on. So many different opinions...I guess the only thing to do id take her to get a pregenancy test. Thanks alot!!

Well thanks for that Jen!

I thought the helping someone wasn't about jumping on thier backs Summit??

The OP came here for advice, worry about the outcome of what she had seen this morning with her dogs.
One of those dogs has already been fixed.........so how you "smell a BYB" is beyond me!!

to the op: you can use the ignore button if some of the members are bothering you.

Also, my neutered male tied up with my unspayed (at the time) female and never got pregnant. Scarlette (love4pits) has a pretty good answer about why this happens... I'll try and find it.

Responsible owners and breeders have nothing to hide. Why is this woman not answering easy questions? That's why I made the comment. It doesn't make sense.

Ignore summit, she has issues. A byb is short for "back yard breeder". Summit is trying to insinuate that is what you are. I don't think anyone else agrees.

In regards to your concerns, I'd bring her in and see what the vet says.

Maybe because you are drilling her and she has other things to deal with. If you want to chase her away you are probably going to be successful.
