help me with a puppy checklist

i am not getting another one now. prolly a yr or two from now. but i never had a puppy before. only adult dogs. can u guys give me some input in what i would need before i get a puupy? i want to buy stuff every month, little by little, just to give me something to do. i have never been without a dog. its lonely. i know u guys are gonna tell me to rescue a dog, but as u know, i always have rescuced from the shelter, and never had any luck. we have a reputable breeder here, and like i said i will wait for a long time anyways. but i would like to put a puupy check list together. so please help....

Hello there!

I bet you can't wait to get your new puppy! I think to start off your checklist you will need:

Some Kind Of Bedding to make him feel very comfortable

You will also need some drinking bowls and puppy food

Toys And Chew devices to make sure he has something fun to play with

You also need to get a crate so you can build his little den for him

What breed are you getting?

A nice crate and water cups to attach to the door
Soft, comfy bedding
Lots and lots of chew toys!! Kongs and nylabones are great, squeakies too.
Edible chews
A nice buckle collar and nice leash
A break-away collar
Tags with the dog's name and your phone number
Shampoo/Conditioner and doggie deodorant if you want, lol
Treats and food
A bandana

LOL but once you get a puppy I bet you'll go on a shopping spree anyways, that's how it is with puppies lol you can't resist!!

a min pin. but i was wondering the essentials for housebreaking etc. i know the basics, but what about puupy pads etc..i am clueless.lol

I don't like puppy pads, because then you're teaching your dog to potty inside, not out. What I would do is tether the dog to you at all times, so that he's right there with you. Bring him out every hour to go to the bathroom. When he goes potty, reward him with praise and treats. You can even teach him to go on command if you want lol. You could also teach him to ring a bell that is attached to the door whenever he needs to go outside. Since minpins are small though, you could litter or pad train him as well as grass train him if you wanted to.

cool. the bell thing is a good idea. our adult min pin we used to have, would always jump on the door...i will have plenty of time, i just want to be prepared. and it makes me feel better about magnum, when i concentrate on something else

I am not a fan of puppy pads as well in my signature I on that site I show you my system to potty train and house break your puppy very quickly without using puppy pads.

Yes I started Dallas off w/ the bell thing..but he just sat in front of the door and barked so he can go out. So we just stuck w/ that.

I used puppy pads for all my dogs and they just ripped them up, so I stopped using them. A few puppy must haves would be: a crate (if you are crate training), a bed, food and water dishes (I prefer metal because they can't chew them up and they aren't easily breakable), a leash and collar to fit your puppy (or harness if you prefer harnesses to collars), chew toys, chew toys and more chew toys, a good cleaner ammonia free for cleaning up any accidents the puppy has, a quality food and treats for your puppy. I also think you should buy a book such as How to Raise a Puppy you can live with (I bought mine used on Amazon). That way you can read the book while you wait for your puppy and can use it when the puppy finally arrives. Well good luck in your puppy shopping. I don't blame you for going with a breeder though, because we've had the same luck with shelter dogs.

The stuff that I had ready before I got Riot would have been;

adult sized wire/metal crate for sleeping in, toys, comfy bed for him to sleep on outside of his crate, then another cushion for inside his crate, he had his bowls, and placement set out for him along with the food that the breeder had told me to buy.

When i first got Riot, we went straight to the petstore and bought him a leash and collar that fit him. Then.. ever since I've had him hes kept getting more food(lots of it lol) and more toys after hes chewed his favourite ones to pieces lol

The first night i wrapped a warm water bottle in towels and put an alarm clock that ticks next to his crate.. he never whined the whole night for me!
