so a young lady in my unit is rehoming a 1 YO dogo that was given to her by her mother's boyfriend (a breeder in miami). don't know much about the lines yet. hopefully will be talking to the breeder tomorrow.
anyway, IF i decide i'd like to have the dog, how do i talk my DW into it as she will be adamantly opposed?
i have zero expectation of success (be easier to talk her into nookie at the intersection of state & main during rush hour), but all help will be appreciated.

Offer to just foster it since it's in need of a home and "you know how hard dogos can be to place in the right home. I would hate to see this one end up in the wrong hands."

Maybe roll the dog in mud and say it followed you home?!

yeah, well i don't want her to stab me on purpose this time. it was bad enough when it was an accident (at least that's her story & it might have actually been an accident).

Wish I could help you there Pops. I'm in a similar boat with my husband. He says No more dogs, and I want one. I'm about to implement Stardogs idea.

yeah thinking of taking the dogs out and bringing him home as a wandering dog on BLM land. still don't think she'll buy it as she knows what a dogo is and that would be TOOO much coincidence.

crap! i'd need about 1/2 dozen $1000 gift cards to decorating stores like Tai Pan Trading AND a few thousand dollars worth of photography accessories.
come on people get creative here. i know there are some intelligent & devious individuals on this board. break that gift out for a good cause.

Have the dog somehow save your life/her life/someone's life and then teach him to whine on command when she says "No, we're not keeping him." Heartbreaker!

I can tell you why we added another pup years ago. My husband said we were going to watch the pup for a friend until a new home was found because he couldn't keep it. I said yes. The pup came, I didn't want another dog, we gave it back to him, and 4 hours later we had the pup back again because I fell in love with it. Maybe this would work for you.

You hide in in your bedroom until you get busted and by then she will see those beautiful eyes, and once she has petted the dog your home free. Worked with me for my Mom on many occasions. THe first time I think I was 5.

Just put your foot down and say, "I'm the man of the house and what I say goes."

Why doesn't she want another dog? Is it the cost, the hassle, the mess etc?

I like the idea of fostering. And then hope she gets used to the dog ;) A dogo in the wrong hands would be very bad indeed.

I always have to talk my husband into new pets. For me, I just slowly start talking about it and kind of try to pull out WHY he is against it. From there I can then debate his points against. So far its always worked when I really have my mind set on a pet;)

In our house, I'm the one who doesn't want more dogs. We didn't end up taking him, but my boyfriend's stepmom was fostering a doxie-mix named Louie. He was BONKERS, in a fun way, and peed when he was happy. He wanted to do what you asked, but was too happy that you were talking to him to successfully listen to the whole word before he shot off to start doing something else. Anyway, he was living at his dad's house for a while and became smitten with Louie. To get me to agree to having him here, he pointed out that not many people are going to want a mini-doxie mix that's too excitable to listen to people and who pees when you look at him. He did get better when Donny was running him every day, but he was still a handful. He also pointed out that combined, Zobby (his current dog) and Louie still wouldn't eat as much as Elsie, and that we already have a crate. Plus, maybe it could just be for a little, until we found a better home.

His stepmom decided she loved him, and kept him... and then gave him to someone else. Which really is too bad, but I'm glad not to be responsible for the vet care of another dog right now.

    So, basically:
    No one else wants him.
He won't eat that much, we can afford it.
    It can be temporary.
