So, I'm not new to dogs (I've had them since birth) But I am new to raising a puppy all by myself (IE without parents but with friends/boyfriend help). After filling out an application with a local rescue, we suffered the loss of a puppy we'd pre-picked from their website (He died the weekend we went for a visit) and eventually went a week later to look at the other puppies available. Since the rescue deals mainly with mixed breed pregnant female rescues, we got lucky (or maybe not) enough to pick out a puppy before she was weaned and we just picked her up this weekend!

Our new baby is named Izzy (Isabell) and is 8 weeks old today! She's not quite done with her shots and deworming but well on her way (thanks to the rescue that got her first set done before we picked her up) She's scheduled to be spayed at 4 months and we hope to have her for a long long time :)

Though I do have to say, I feel like I just gave birth! She cries more than I had expected but the little girl is spoiled between "two daddies and a mommy" who all play with her every day and take turns taking her out. Since Saturday she's been to PetSmart 3 times, the campus (We're all college students and it's exam week) quads twice, and the local college-town street with shops and whatnot twice. We're trying hard for that 100 person mark!

We're working on bite inhibition with her right now and I managed to teach her "drop it" today since she's been going after socks. While housebreaking is slowly progressing, we're just happy she's going on the puppy pads now instead of on the floor around them. Regardless, she's got lots of chewwy rope bones and a rawhide knot that she just loves! That, along with two soft/squeaking toys and a college coordinated collar have her spoiled in less than a week! (She can't wait til christmas!) Our baby is currently eating a holistic dog food (No corn meal!) provided by the rescue and we're slowly integrating another holistic brand in so that once her starter bag runs out we can find her food at a PetSmart and not online.

Oh yeah... I have other pets too! Back at home my parents have two Chesapeake Bay Retrievers that are brother and sister with no papers but they're happy nonetheless. They were the product of a byb that ended up having to give them away because he "lost" the papers on the parents. They both had mange and worms when we picked them up which made for a less than fun start. While they seemed healthy, we found out this summer that they're both HW+ which means my puppy will be staying away from them while I'm home. They should be starting treatment soon since it's easier to contain them while it's cold outside.

We also have an evil cat! But he doesn't count. I have two corn snakes and a royal python annnnd a crested gecko... Definitely a reptile lover on top of mammals and everyone I know says I should be a vet... But I couldn't stand to see a pet in pain!

This turned into an animal life story but I'm glad to be here :)

I loves my present!

I like the pattern on the Ghost.. that amel looks almost like a sunglow!

Your puppy is soooo fuzzy!! Is she soft?

The ghost was from a breeder/mod at my reptile forum haunt and I was pleased as well when she turned out to be a zigzag! If the Amel is a sunglow then I got lucky, he was my first reptile and from a PetLand no less.

And Yes, Izzy is very very soft. She's had quite a few baths since she got home because she was being kept in a barn with her mom/littermates before I got her and I am QUITE allergic to horses. That and my friend and I both have fairly irritating fur allergies if the dog isn't cleaaaan. Petting her is somewhat like petting an Angora rabbit though XD
