I was an active poster on chaz several years ago.

I'm sad to report that my first dog, Milo, passed away at the age of 10 after a brief and painful fight with bone marrow cancer.

Here is a thread I started back in 2007 that shows him with McGee
-- then a rescue puppy, now nearly 5 years old. We're both terribly lonely and miss Milo very much.

I am considering how to move forward from this loss and help McGee and me get through our grief. I came back to chaz to seek the advice of you good people as needed. I've never lost a dog before so it's all new territory for me.

As a sidenote, McGee and I are currently working on "click to calm" techniques since she gets nervous around people she doesn't know.

I learn so much when I am here and am thankful to be back.

Welcome back to Chaz. I'm so sorry to hear about Milo; try to remember all the good times & love you shared. It takes time to heal; this shows just how much you meant to each other. Try to take each day one at a time. I'm glad you have McGee in your life to brighten each day.

Hi, welcome back! I am so sorry to hear about Milo. :(

We have another awesome Maltese person and her dogs on the board now too, Katooka. :)

Many thanks to all for the welcome, the warm thoughts, and condolences. This is probably the worst loss/grief experience I have ever gone through so it's nice to know that others can relate. Even my "dog-people" friends aren't totally understanding the depth of my sadness.

I have been lurking around chaz for the past 3-4 weeks and noticed we have new Maltese friends here. Awesome! I am to the point where I am trying to decide who/what/when/where my next dog will be. Of course I have considered getting another Maltese but am hesitant to get such an obvious "replacement dog."

I look forward to getting more involved here. I really value the depth of knowledge and experience of the folks here.
