He wouldn't stop jumping!

So to introduce myself and my dogs: I've just been introduced to the world of somewhat competitive dog showing and reformed lessons. So I have 2 dogs, a 1.5 year old Rott/Dobe mix and an 8 month old pitbull.

I originally started lessons with my mix because she was so clever and quick to learn and I wanted to challenge her. I started lessons with my pit because I live in Ontario where the ban is on and I thought some obedience lessons would be a responsible act on my part. So the pitt started lessons, not for anything serious like showing, but just to make him a safer pet all around.

So at his last private lesson we set up 2 high jumps just for fun. He sat on the table and I sent him to the box where he got his treat and then he returned to the table. Did he ever love it!!! Tail wagging eyes shining! We did it probably 4 times and than quit for the day. My coach and I were just discussing shows in the upcoming week for my other pup when we looked for Hades and there he was running up and down the jumps just loving it!!! For 10 minutes while we were talking he just kept on trucking. My coach mentioned that perhaps we should get him involved in some agility because he obviously loves it!! LOL. He starts his fungility lessons in 2 weeks now!!!

Great! Sounds like you'll be having fun with both of your dogs. Just remember to keep the jumps low for your pup 'til he's full grown so his joints won't get overstressed. (I was always told as a rule of thumb to keep the jumps at the height of your dog's elbow.)
Does the agility organization you're interested in have a Jumpers class? Sounds like your Pit will be a natural at it!

A jumper class?? I've never heard of that, what exactly is it?

NADAC (North American Dog Agility Council) has, as one of their 'games', a Jumpers class. It is strictly jumps (with maybe a tunnel thrown in) and the dog with the fastest time and no jump faults (knocked down bars, or off course penalties) wins the class (and usually Qs). It's a fast, exciting and fun class to watch (and the judge gets to finally sit in a chair to score the class). They've also started a Tunnelers class which is even more fun for the dogs.
AKC has a Jumpers and Weaves class, basically the same kind of class.

I think that is just wonderful. You have landed on the very thing your dog seems to enjoy and can share in this activity together. I am green with envy for i wish i could do something like this with Victor. Good luck and paweeese come back and share pics and videos if you can

^ I definitely will. It was just so surprising because, he's usually so quiet, and just wants to be loved. He was actually really INTO it, just lovin it! I'll definitely give an update with some pics of my little guy doin' some jumps and goofin off! lol
