Hi, I am going to get my Harrier puppy hopefully next month or the month after. I know I have to wait a year, but I was wondering if Harriers are good at playing frisbee or some other sport. I think it will be good excercise for my dog to participate in sports (not to mention it would be really fun for him!!!). I was wondering if any of you guys knew what sports a Harrier would be good at. -Richie

aww... I wanted agility..:(. Well... better get a gun :p jk. Seriously, though, that stinks! I can't afford a gun! And I don't even know if I could kill an animal!

Well, I will try to get him into some agility stuff, even if he doesn't win. I just want him to have fun and meet other dogs.

Well, tracking for sure as well as hunting - those two are obvious but really, there's no reason why a Harier couldn't do agility or obedience either. It would be just a matter of dealing with hound stubborness, of course - but they are very althetic dogs. SO mind over matter!

The couple of Harriers I've seen over the years (My old Beagle was accused of being a Harrier by some people, due to his size), basically weren't really interested in retreiving, but were very interested, like my dog, in other dogs and anything that moved in the area, like rabbits, etc.

Maybe you will get lucky, there's a Beagle around here, that does agility really well. He's almost as into it as a couple of the really intense ones. My dog King couldn't have cared less about it...

ShepherdGirl123, your signature makes me have to scroll sideways to read everyones posts. It is just a little too big. And I am on dial up too. But the problem is the having to scroll sideways.

Thanks,
Julie.

Richie, I didn't know you were getting another dog. Best wishes.

This is an old post, before Richie got Cooper. He wanted a Harrier but ended up getting adorable little Cooper the Vizsla.
