If the blue eyes are for real and not because of the flash, then it's entirely possible they are only 4 weeks old. My guess is the "breeder" got tired of cleaning up after them and dumped them and the shelter fudged the age because it's illegal to adopt out or sell any animal under 8 weeks of age. Because it's a kill shelter, it's not like they care a whole lot though.

Smkie has given you some great advice on how to give little Esther a good start! I'm so sorry to hear about the loss of Layla though. :(

Thanks, yea the eyes ARE blue and that is what I was thinking too, I'm so glad we got them out of there, every one of my babies has come from a kill shelter, I wish I could take them all but I am so happy to do what I can! Esther is turning out to be a genious little pup too! Just started house training today and every time I have taken her out she has gone both pee and poo right away!

Maybe the lady at the shelter just didn't know what she was talking about, or meant to say 2 months... I would trust her records more than a random lady. A 4 week old puppy would not yet be weaned, would barely have teeth, and would look much like a furry alien. ;) In most states it's against the law to sell a puppy before 8 weeks, and especially shelters!

I loved having an exercise pen for Fozzie as a puppy. I placed his crate, water/food, a puppy pad, and SAFE toys/chewies in there when I had to be gone for longer than a few hours. He almost never used the puppy pad, but I would prefer it to the floor anyway. Kongs are an amazing investment! Buy one, and buy some peanut butter, smear a spoonful in the Kong and freeze it and you have a preoccupied puppy for an hour. :) Bully sticks are amazing for teething puppies. As are lamb ears, cow tendons, cow tails, and other natural, safe chews (not rawhide).

Maybe most importantly... get into puppy kindergarten classes! I recommend finding an Obedience club or behaviorists/certified trainers in your area with both Obedience and play classes for puppies, to get training basics as well as socialization. Look for classes that are positive reinforcement only. The socialization window is from now until 16 weeks, so your puppy should be meeting 100 various people a week and as many friendly, well-mannered dogs of all ages as possible.

CHecking back in to see how Esther and Vinne are doing.

What a sweet picture. I can see why your mother scooped them up.

Yes, Esther is doing just fine! She is sleeping through 1/2 of the night and has not had an accident in her crate for the past 2 nights (knock on wood!) She goes potty as soon as I take her outside most times and is spoiled rotten!
