My friend is coming to visit--haven't seen her in a long time. Not worried about the friendship--but she is bringing her dog with her. I have met the dog--she is not well socialized, but I did tell her she could bring her (they are traveling)---I am not sure how Baxter will tolerate a new dog coming into the house. Nor do I think this dog (Annabelle) will do well with other dogs since she rarely sees/interacts with new dogs (she has been around others, but limited time).
So, any suggestions would be appreciated. We do have crates for all if needed--but I am hoping we don't need to do that. Am I crazy? We are putting up our christmas tree--so it will be a bit crazy anyway.

It's probably too late, but it's your house and your rules...if the dog gets out of hand, there's a crate available. :)

I have always been told that it's best to let the dogs "meet" someplace that is neutral territory. You know, like the park or other place that doesn't "belong" to either of them.

That way Bax doesn't feel like he must "defend" what is his right off the bat.

That is the only "pearl" of wisdom I have for you, LOL.........GOOD LUCK :D

I had planned on having the dogs meet in a neutral place--but, silly me....I stepped into the bathroom for a moment. And of course, that is right when my friends arrived, and my husband says, Yeah--go on in.....as I hear Baxter barking as they opened the door.
:yikes: that's what I must've looked like--running out of the bathroom saying NOOOOOOOOOOO! :lol-sign:

So I quickly put my dogs in the bathroom, and then let my friends and their dog in. Let her get settled, sniff, etc...then brought Baxter out on a leash (Annabelle was also on a leash)---they were excited, but ok with each other. So we kept things calm for a bit, then I brought Trav out and did the same thing. Within 30 mins they were all acclimated, and all was good. PHEW!!

    And I had a great visit with my friends--whom I haven't seen for a long time. :D

I am glad it all worked out and you had a nice visit with your friend.
I myself just found out that one of my best childhood friend lives just down the street from me.

Annabelle could easily be a lab/shepherd mix.........more than likely quite a few mixed in, a Heinz pooch :D

They all look happy and content.....who could ask for more after just having met??
