Finally came back.

He is apparently...

1/4th Australian Cattle Dog
1/4th Chihuahua
1/4th Swedish Vallhund
1/4th Mixed Breed (Which is apparently most likely a sporting breed)

I guess I'll just keep calling him a cattle dog mix.... :p

Where is the terrier? lol

I wonder if he's a NBT and maybe it's picking up on that? But really with the way DNA tests work he could have like, a really Valhund-y liver. :lol-sign:

Corgi?? Or just more cattle dog. I doubt any kind of terrier would turn up as vallhund, but some might come up as chihuahua.

:rofl1::rofl1: He totally has a vallhund liver. I'm going to go with that.

I am pretty sure he's docked. Like 99% sure as are people with docked breeds that have looked at his tail.

I could buy ACD and Chihuahua even. Vallhund... not so much.

I'm gonna guess the valhund is actually from a non-AKC corgi. All of their DNA samples are from papered purebreds, so dogs from unpapered lines can give weird results.

I highly recommend contacting the company though, and asking why you got this rare breed in his results. I had a grand time geeking out about dogs with the geneticist that called me about Brisbane's results.

What did Brisbane's DNA come back as? Did you just email them asking 'hey what's up with X breed?' (Also kind of lolling at the fact my dog is your dogs' baby)

Honestly doing research now on the more recent Wisdom Panel 2.0 it seems like most dogs get fairly accurate results but not always the right breed 100%. So like a known Aussie x JRT might show border collie x rat terrier.

Apparently Jack Russell terriers, rat terriers, toy fox terriers and Chihuahuas can be hard to distinguish apart.

One side of his tree shows ACD mix and the other side shows Chihuahua x Vallhund.

The vallhund just... not likely. I'd buy Chihuahua or possibly other similar small terrier.

OMG Hank is Brisbane and Ru's baby!

The first round of results said Brisbane's mum was half ACD and half bullmastiff, which seemed unlikely given that she was ~30lbs and very much a cattledog. I sent them pictures of him and her and asked them to please point out the bullmastiff because I wasn't seeing it. The geneticist said that his mom likely wasn't AKC registered and so wasn't a bullseye with their pool of cattledogs. The bullmastiff was a very strong positive though, so much that we got a false positive on his mother's side.

Brisbane's test was also very positive for Cavalier King Charles spaniel. I asked if that could mean any spaniel and she said it came up CKCS and only CKCS every time.

The computer can come up with a number of projections, and usually they just send you the first one. The geneticist disregarded all the ones with anything but ACD on one side for Briz, and we determined that his dad was a quarter each bullmastiff, CKCS, and Amstaff. She also said she believes his dad was a shorthaired tricolor mid-sized dog with floppy ears. The people I got him from said they thought the dad was their neighbor's beagle mix.

It's also worth noting that Brisbane's test very nearly came up with that remaining 1/8th being Xolo. The geneticist said that tends to be a false positive for terriers.

So my theory is that ACD mix makes sense. Most heelers here are 'mostly ACD' so there being mix back many generations makes sense.

Chihuahua I'm fine with but apparently tht could also be TFT, rat terrier or JRT because they can be hard to tell apart. Any of those breeds fit.

The vallhund... No idea. There aren't many dogs on their gallery with vallhund in the mix. Several had ACD coloring though. Makes me wonder if the vallhund couldn't be ACD again (chi x ACD could be a mini heeler since those exist here). Cowboy corgis are also popular (pemmie x ACD). So maybe vallhund is really pemmie. His temperament fits with ACDs and corgis very well.
