Logistically speaking, I don't know how the great dane could actually breed a female doxie. Sorry, but that doesn't sound physically possible. There would be some issues with actually being able to reach, let alone fit...pardon my french

To be technical showpug you could certainly do any breeding by doing an AI. Most Newf breeders only do AI's as it's difficult to get a natural breeding...I myself have not seen a natural Newf breeding...always an AI.
There are a few breeders now who are freezing favorite stud sperm and using it years later by AI'ing it..some breeders are even getting eggs fertilized in test tubes by more than one favorite stud then doing DNA tests after the pups are born.
