Okay, spurred on by Tucker's test, I finally broke down and got one for Gusto. If anyone wants to play along, place your guesses here!

Gusto this fall:

Baby Gusto:

Littermates as puppies:

Gusto with the only littermate we still "know" last summer:

Mother was *supposed* to be a purebred border collie. I don't believe anyone actually ever saw her. Amish rescue litter, possibly from a farm, possibly from a puppy mill? So possibly an F1 cross.

He's about 28 lbs. 17.25" at the withers.

Those darn puppy pictures are why he's in my house. I saw them on Facebook and needed him.

I love him. I love the white line down the black face. My boy looks like that too. But he's a chihuahua jack Russell cross so I'll guess something else for yours haha

I'm going to say...border collie boxer.

I could have no idea what I'm talking about, but I think he looks like a border staffy. Maybe with something else mixed in. Whatever he is, he's adorable!

The litter was actually listed as border staffy! I think that Gusto and the sister we know as an adult grew up too light in body to keep up that guess, but they were the two lighter build dogs in the litter (and who knows, maybe more than one sire?). But it isn't a way out there guess for sure!

I think his littermates owner (who has a couple of purpose-bred border staffies) believes them to be border/rat. Definitely a fair guess! Gusto is the only one I see Boston in, but I've definitely thought that for a while. Those creepy bug eyes...

I was thinking border x boston...

Quicksilver bred some border x rats and they look quite different imo.

Min pin or Boston? A coworker of mine has a min pin/Boston mix, and he has a croup and tailset just like Gusto's- he's smaller though. Have seen individuals of both breeds with similar tails, so I'd guess maybe either :). Would expect to see more substance in a boston mix, and potentially B/T markings in a pin mix (since some BCs are pointed), but those are my 2 guesses even so :)

ETA: Would have expected at least one brindle pup in the litter if they were Boston mixes?

I was going to guess Border collie and Staffy but could just as easily see other terriers in there. I wish I knew what the brown sibling ended up looking like.

Border staffy, maybe with other terrier in there.

The tail is throwing me off a bit, but I don't know enough about genetics to decide if that means anything

He reminds me of a dog I used to petsit that was a Boston Terrier/Beagle mix. I definitely don't think that;s what Gustso is completely - definitely see other stuff mixed in, possibly Rat Terrier or BC?

I would guess something rat terrier-ish if he came out of an Amish operation... aside from puppy milling the Amish in my area, at least, are actually known for breeding hardcore working ratting terriers that they use to keep rodents out of their barns.* They get called "rat terriers" but they're probably better referred to as "ratting terriers" because the ones I've seen are obviously nothing the UKC would nod in.

I do think he looks something like a Boston in the face though.

* Seriously, my mom's boyfriend owns a few and they're no joke. If they were bigger dogs they'd be flat out dangerous. If it moves they've got their little needles in it, they're like lightning.

For anyone who has been waiting around with baited breath....

Not the craziest I've seen, for sure. I'd probably swap out the ACD for more BC and maybe one of the Amstaffs for a smaller terrier, but I certainly wouldn't rule any of those 3 breeds out completely as part of the mix.

He was also N/N for MDR1 which, after his Advil drama when he was younger, I was expecting to be positive.

So border staffy wasn't too far off (although he does seem a bit small for AmStaff), but I never would have thought ACD.

I'd love to do this for Fable and Cy to see what it comes up for them.
