Took Gus to the vets today because as some of you will know he was stung by a Bee/Wasp/Hornet on Wednesday night! (see Help Please in the health forum) Because the swelling wasn't going down and if anything was getting worse and he was starting to limp! :( She gave him 2 injections, diuretics (sp) and Cortisone. And he has tablets for the next week! Poor boy!!
He's really milking this for all the attention and treats it's worth! ;)

Oh and by the way Katelina has had her stiches out and is fully mended and is climbing the walls as usual  :D

I know! I'm becoming so regular at the vets that they are starting to reserve a chair for me!! Hopefully that is it for a little while! All the vets will be having a good holiday on me this year at this rate!! :D

Glad everyone's okay now. Cortisone is some nasty, heavy duty stuff though!

You might keep some Benadryl on hand in your first aid kit. The dosage for DOGS ONLY - is 1 mg per pound of body weight, although I only give half of that at first. I've never had to give the other half of the dose, even for hornet stings.

NEVER EVER give it to cats though!

YIKES...sounds like it HAS been a rough time! Oh, poor Gus. Was this a common reaction that a dog can have, or is he maybe allergic? Glad everyone is on the mend.

Did the vet have any idea what could have stung him?
She thinks it's more likely to have been a Hornet with the reaction he got, unless he is hyper sensitive which would just be my luck! :D

There's a sticky in the Health thread with what you want, Gus. I remembered it being there from a long time ago, so I searched it up and stickied it. Hope others will add to the list!

When we were in DIsney World last week... Roxy Mae was staying with my Grandparents and when I called to check on her one day, they told me she had been stung by something and was shaking frantically and limping. So they took her to my work and she got a Cortisone and an antibiotic and they just put it on my bill at work. I was worried sick, but I knew they would take care of her... Anyway, I guess Gus and Roxy are recovering "together." LOL

getting stung was an occupational hazard at the kennel..every spring without fail i would get it one way or the other.mud daubers, hornets, honey bees bumble....one thing i found..different members of the same insect family have different potent amounts of toxin..so one may not bother u..the next may make u elphant woman...tell gus i empathize and send him my kiss and hug please..and whisper to katalina that i am soooooooo happy she is all mended now..and to please please be careful from now on.
