What sweethearts!! I'm glad they both found their way to your place :)

Try checking craigslist and petfinder for lost dog adds. You can also post a found add, you just be careful if you get any weird responses!

Hoping this turns out good ! :D

If you post a "Found" ad, make sure to not give out too much information about the dogs. You never know who will lie about their ownership, and then two unaltered dogs could fall into the wrong hands.

Exactly Jessie, that's what I'm afriad of. Because I know if some one replies to us and say they are the owners, it doesn't matter how bad a place they are going to, my parent's will let "owners" take them.

I hope we find the owners, but if no one has called the vets, shetlers, or HS, no chips, they have no collar or tags...I don't think there's much left to do.

Yeah, sometimes people's dogs will break out and go looking for them when they are out of town, even with house sitters and all. They definitely do not look dumped, and if their people are out of town then that would explain why nobody has posted a lost ad for them yet. They might not even know their dogs are missing. My cousin's rottie escaped once (she had wanderlust in a bad way) and was picked up 11 miles away less than 24 hours later, so yes they can and do travel insane distances in a very short time.

Check for microchips, and also examine them really closely for tattoos. Some common places are in the ears, or the inside of a leg. Make sure to check through their fur really well for tattoos because they can become hidden pretty easily. We had a dog stolen about 8 months ago and hope to heaven that someone, somewhere will have her scanned so we can get her back. Who knows what shape she is in. I just hope that if she is found the person finding her will be open minded and not think "well gee, those people sure took crummy care of her/let her run away/whatever. I'm going to keep/sell/give away."

Is there a golden retriever rescue in your region of the country? When our dog was stolen we notified Southwest GSD rescue. They do lost and found too, most breed rescues do. Maybe that would be a good place to look as well.

If someone does try to claim them, you could say, "Oh, and when was he neutered? I can't even see a scar!" Then they will go on to tell you it was a couple of years ago, etc...

How I wish we lived closer !!! I'd have homes for them already !!! All my suggestions have already been given . Do their paws look like they may have been traveling ??? I know of a Golden whose family from Colorado had a car wreck in Indiana . A man kept him for about 6 months and one day he disappeared. Had a new collar with the man's telephone # .....3 months later he got a phone call . It was the Golden's owner.....he made it all the way back home !

Ok, So I'm totally guility of no collar on my dogs. None of my dogs collars have any tags (not even the rabies) just because I HATE collars! The only time they ever have a collar on is if they're going to the vet, groomer or on a trip.

I just can't stand the marks the collars leave around their necks. Their hair just looks so much nicer when they don't have collars on. Plus after watching all those rescue dog shows with imbedded collars - no way.

Does that make me a bad mom? I guess maybe I should re-consider and if I do then I'll need to get tags made up w/ my info on them. Our house has a privacy fence and it's locked from the inside and never gets opened. If we're going out of the yard, we go through the garage and the dogs are not allowed outside if the garage door is going to be opened (theyr'e strong enough to jump and push the small door open to get through if they want).

Sorry - P.S. they are ALL micro chipped incase they were ever to get lose, but then I'd have to hope that someone would take them to a vet or pound to get them scanned.

I think you should make a found poster and say two goldens found. THATS IT. Don't say its female, male, nada. Say please be able to describe in the poster. Who ever responds ask them what is the sexes of the 2 dogs you've lost and the color of the coats.

That's a good idea Juicy. Personally I would just contact the shelter or animal control and let them know... maybe not just the local ones but the ones in a 50 mile area or something... I know it's the first places I would call personally.

Lizmo,

How do you know the female isn't spayed? Sometimes the scars are not visible. Have you felt for internal sutures?

I agree with the others, if you haven't already then have them scanned for chips. Your vet or the shelter will do this for free.

If it's true that the female is intact, I would be very concerned that she may be pregnant.

Best of luck, they are beauties.

Embedded collars happen because owners are negligent and don't adjust the size of the collar as the dog grows, or they tie dogs up with chains or wires which embed themselves into the neck. A normal, attentive owner can prevent an embedded collar quite easily.

But you are not a bad mommy for not having collars. Since they are microchipped it should be ok.

And Lizmo, those dogs probably got out of somewhere. Dumped dogs usually don't look that nice. And those white teeth mean they are fairly young. The rescue I'm with received a shi-tzu that someone had found wandering around (collar, no tags) and we had her for a week before the owners claimed her. We figured she was somebody's lost pet because she was well kept and appeared to have just been groomed. And apparently, the story was that she was at Petsmart getting groomed and they had a fire and she got out, and they had the whole church praying for her. So don't give up looking for those dogs' owners just yet. Try contacting shelters not in your immediate area, like 20-50 miles away at least. There might be reports on missing goldens. Good luck!
