Took Bamm out on our usual walk. There are trails behind my place that go down by a lake.

We were out walking and he starts whining and sniffing in an area. He then pulled hard on the leash and was wagging his tail considerably. I went to investigate and saw a little dark furry bundle but since I didn't know what it was at first I poked it with a stick to get it to move.

As soon as I poked it I heard a mew and it moved its head up to look at me. It was a TINY little kitten and freezing since it is cold out right now. I think its male and he fits in the palm of my hand. Looks maybe 4-5 weeks old and VERY vocal. I got him some formula and he gobbled it up. Not sure how long it had been since he has eaten. He also looks a little wormy.

Cricket thinks she is mom and will not leave his side. Right now I have dubbed him Whiskey since he chugged the bottle of formula like an alcoholic needing a fix.

Hoping to get him into the vet on Monday to make sure he is in good health. He is a little stumbly when he walks. Not sure if that's normal at this age or not.

How does Bamm act around him? I'm glad Cricket is playing momma bear.
    I hope you keep him!

Asweet!!! I think stumbly is spot on for this age.

Right now the idea if keeping him is more than likely a no. I do want to make sure I have him healthy before trying to find him a home though and I definitely won't pass him off to anyone yet while he is so little. Bamm really likes him. He is a sucker for cats though... Always has been. Honestly Bamm would be happy to live in a house FULL of cats if he had the opportunity lol.

The little guy is sleeping now. He seems to stay quiet as long as Cricket is lying near him but screams otherwise.

Thanks. I think I have my dads luck. Homeless animals always find their ways onto his path and this is the third kitten I've found in the past 5 years and the youngest one so far.

His stools are pretty watery. Is that normal as well while he isn't on solids yet? When is a good time to start transitioning him off of formula and onto canned/solids?

He just shot liquid stools all over me and started crying. Also his butthole looks a little irritated to me. What do I do until I can get him in to see a vet this upcoming week?

Oh god I sound like a first time mom

I wouldn't say it's normal, but probably from malnutrition. He should be able to eat solid/canned food at 6 weeks or so. :)

Generally, at 4 weeks old they should be eating mushy cat food (3 parts food to 1 part water, let soak for about 30 mins til mushy), 4 times a day. At 5 weeks, you want them eating 1/2 mush and 1/2 crunchy kibble. The liquid poops very well could be from drinking the milk/formula, though I wouldn't be surprised if he had parasites of some kind.

I got some grain free blue buffalo canned to give him tonight. I'll mix it with the water to make it mushy. How soon can I deworm him?

He ended up pooping all over me and cried a little when he was pooping. Poor little guy.

I went to petco and all the litter pans looked way too high for him to be able to climb into. Instead I got a pie pan for the litter.

I think I'm also going to bathe him in some dawn soap tonight. He smells like diarrhea.

And he is pooping again... Brb

Awww... poor little soul. Kudos to Bamm for finding him and to you for taking him in and taking care of him.

I hope he gets to feeling better once you are able to get him to the vet.

I wouldn't worm until 8 weeks -- I'd suggest asking the vet about it when you take him, he'll be able to tell you if he's strong enough and the exact dose and everything.

Haha lilshit would be a very appropriate name haha. I think I actually remember the 8 weeks rule for deworming. I'm definitely going to ask the vet about it. Will have to have him tested for feline leukemia too.

Josh got home and I expected him to be mad about it. Instead he helped me bathe him in dawn and he swaddled him up in a towel and keeps cooing at him. He also fed him and basically does not want to put the kitten down. Totally the opposite reaction I expected.

You can use pyrantel for deworming as early as 2 weeks, actually.

It's good that he's pooping; between 3 and 4 weeks is when the momma stops having to lick them to stimulate defication, so at least you don't have to do that! Sounds (and looks) like he's probably just over 4 weeks old.

I'd mix the canned cat food with formula, instead of water. It'll stimulate him to eat it since he's used to the formula, and the formula has needed nutrients too. When I raised kittens, I gradually added cat food to the formula, starting with 50% or more (can't remember) formula and then just gradually decreasing the formula over about 3 or 4 days. By about 5 weeks you can start adding kibble, and at that point you can mix it with water to make the kibble softer; then gradually decrease the water and canned food until he's eating crunchy kibble at around 7 or 8 weeks old.

Thank you so much. He is asleep again. Josh is seriously hogging him from me... Ugh. Oh well... That's better than him being mad about it.

He's totally gonna end up staying!
