Someone broke into our house today and stole my brother's electric guitar. It was the weirdest thing because that's the only thing missing. The xbox 360 and wii and iPod touch and massive tv were all sitting right there. My MacBook and digital SLR were upstairs. Weird.

We're not really heartbroken about the guitar because it was never really touched anyway and basically just collected dust. But it's a really horrible feeling to know that someone was in your house while you were gone.

I was stupid and didn't check that the back door was locked before I left for class. 90% of the time I check but today I was running late and in a fluster. :( Totally my fault. Of course the ONE day it's left unlocked someone breaks in.

Anyone else hear of anything weird like this happening? My mother thinks that maybe they were planning to take more and were interrupted by something. We live in a great neighbourhood so it's unusual that something like this would happen here. I wish the dogs could talk and let me know what happened! I guess they weren't very threatening .. Seamus would no sooner lick someone to death and Sally can't even bark anymore in her old age. :p

So anyway .. just a friendly reminder to always check your back doors before you leave to go out! :(

It's more of the opposite for me - I leave the door ajar, unlocked, key in the lock etc - nothing ever happens lol.

I'm sorry to hear that happened though (lots of hugs) - be vigilant about the locks I guess and perhaps consider a alarm if you are really concerned? Thankfully nothing of huge value was taken and most of all that the dogs are safe =)

No biggie about the dogs - Katalin is the same way right now - and she's supposed to be a f@cking guardian breed lmao, just kidding - it takes time for them to get protective. My breeder had her place broken into too - and all her jewelry and electronics made off with - and she had 7 Kuvaszok at home at the time too :yikes: So yeah...sometimes things just work out...funny.

Sounds less like a weird coincidence, and more like whoever took it knows someone in your house, wanted that particular item, knew where to find it and waited for an opportunity.

I agree, I think somebody knew exactly what they wanted... a "friend" of his, perhaps? I would feel icky knowing somebody had been in the house too though. ((((HUGS))))

See, we were thinking along those lines too, but we're racking our brains trying to think of who could have done it. No one new has been in our house for agggges. We had a barbecue a couple weeks ago but only invited our closest friends, and I know that none of them would have ever stolen from us (most of them have been our friends for 10-15 years, so it's not like it was their first time in our home). My brother's friends rarely, if ever, come here. No repairmen or anything of that sort have been around either. I'M SO CONFUSED. I don't even think it was a that great of a guitar!!

Aww...I'm sorry this happened. It is a very creepy feeling that someone violated your domain. I'm glad at least nothing more was stolen. What jerks!!!!!

I use to leave my door unlocked all the time when I lived in north Idaho. There wasn't anyone much around and my house was far off the road. No one could really tell if anyone was home. I figured...if someone wants to get in, they will so might as well not have the door jam ruined or a window broken.

My daughter lives in Seattle. The door of her apartment was not closed once tightly enough and it swung back open, unbeknownst to her. She was gone for about a week and came back to find the door wide open. No one had gone in or taken anything. People in the apartment complex must have walked by. You'd think one of them would have noticed and pulled the door closed. Or gone in and ripped her off. Weird. Another time, I sent her a couple of nice, wool sweaters from LL Beans. I didn't think about delivery and the UPS guy left it on her door step. It sat there for a couple of days when she was gone for the week end. And it was still there when she got home. But thereafter, I don't send her stuff to her apartment. But it's funny how nothing happened there.

It would be nice if you could figure out who took the guitar. I just can't believe it...so, you think it's someone you know? Creepy.

(I love the title of your thread. LOL. Yep...a lot of dogs would fail, it's true.)

I also think it was somebody you know and wouldn't even suspect. Heck, my own brother stole from me. (And he's not even a drug addict.)
