Im interested in getting a German shorthaired pointer and later, a kelpie. i wanna do agility with them, they will get two walks a day if i cant take them every where, thats what i wanna do. Also, would it be better to get them together, or would it be a bad idea to have 2 puppies? what do u think?

Two pups is hard, and I can tell you that from experience. Have you researched the breeds you are interested in, to make sure they're the right dogs for you? I'd reccomend getting one pup, then later getting another.

It would be a bad idea to have two puppies. JMO. One puppy alone requires a lot of attention, two would be very stressful.

I can't help but ask, why a Kelpie as opposed to another breed that could excel in agility? Working Kelpies are even more intense and serious than your average herders like BCs, ACDs, etc. Are you sure you want to take on a dog that will NEED to work on a daily basis?

I know i want a dog that needs daily excercise because i have a cttle dog now, hes a bit mad and im enjoying walking him sometimes 8 kms a day.
Thanks for the inf, ill reply again in the morning.

I wouldn't get two puppies at a time. I have never owned two puppies at one time, but I can tell you that it must be pretty hard, LOL. There's no way I could take care of two human babies by myself. My two-year-old nephew is a handful by himself!

Don't want to sound mean, but do you realize how much exercise a Kelpie (and a GSP) needs? I don't know how your walks are, but a Kelpie would need to jog for couple of miles. Not just walk. But if you have researched the breed(s), then good luck! :) And I'd stay away from two pups at the same time, too. Especially a GSP pup and a Kelpie! Talk about a LOT of activity! lol I'd go insane.

Yep. I'd lable their activity level like a Border Collies. Only almost all Kelpies are bred for working purposes so you can't find one without a heavy herding instinct.

Wow, two puppies.

Coming from experience, that's A LOT of work.

I only have one beautiful GSD and he's a handful.

Have you thought about house training? (Not easy! Takes lots of patience)

Some nipping problems they may have? (Not easy! ... at least for me)

I'm sure since you have 3 dogs, you know that puppies are A LOT of work.

But it's your decision and I wish you luck with it. :)

thx i dont think ill get them one at a time, ill get the GSP first, because, then i can train it up and i know kelpies are good at learning from other dogs.

i'll give my kelpe heaps to do, every day, i wanna take them everywhere with me. Like, ill shop at the markets instead of supermarkets, so ii can take my dogs. I am excited, but i have to go take buster for a walk now he knows he is going and he's getting excited.

You're right on the money there. Tons of work. Mrose, I'm glad you decided on one at a time.

Yes, Rocky is gorgeous :D Looks like a handful, though LOL

LOL Yup.

Nipping was a hard one for me.

I second that!
