and since Georgie is the smallest I put her in it while it was still filling up. First I just held her out over it a bit and dipped her paws in... I thought she would yank her paws up but instead she started paddling with her front legs! OMG YAY GEORGIE! So I lowered her further in and she was just paddling away while I held her around her middle. My mom didn't want me to let her go right away, so I took her out and got Auggie next. Auggie did AWESOME. He swam right away! My champ. <3 It's still really cold from filling up so I only let him in for a few seconds to paddle across it to my mom, but he was SWIMMING.
I set Payton in it and it wasn't filled up enough for him yet, haha. So I took him back out, let it keep filling up, and put Georgie in again, and this time I let her go. She doesn't seem to know to paddle her back legs hahaha, her back end just kinda started sinking and she started flailing more than paddling with her front paws. We will put her life jacket on her next time and see if she can't figure it out, but she did soooo good! Got Auggie in again and he swam like a fishie again... he's such a rock star. Finally got it filled up deep enough for Payton to swim and he flailed for a few seconds and I brought him back out because I wasn't really ready for him to swim but I didn't want to fill it up any higher than I absolutely had to, and I was afraid I would end up on my butt in the pool in my clothes with him flailing around LOL.

So probably tomorrow. It's pretty overcast right now, we actually got a little bit of rain, so I don't think it's going to warm up enough until tomorrow. Then we will see if it will be possible for me to have a little sheltie dock diving team or not. XD

Georgie and Payton both have Outward Hound life jackets now. I'm not sure if I should bother putting one on Auggie or not? He seems like he just gets it.

Woohoo! Swimming is SUCH a great way to tire them out. I don't know what I'd do in the summer if Jackson did not like to swim.

Which kind of pool did you get? I'm lucky that my dad has an inground pool but I've been wanting to buy a pool deep enough for him to swim in at my moms house.

Are Shelties "known" for being swimmers? Sounds like Auggie took right to it!

I just bought one of those kinda cheapo above ground pools made by Intex. It's a 8x30". 30" is more than deep enough for the little guys but was necessary for Payton.
I don't think a lot of shelties are water dogs, but I think it's because people don't think of them as typical water dogs. For one thing the double coat kinda takes a while to dry out so it's a bit annoying. =P I know there are a few dock diving shelties out there, but I haven't met one in person yet. I always thought it would be fun to try with Auggie but he's not super nuts about water, though it's possible he's about to prove me wrong! Payton OTOH likes to play in the water so I think if I can get him swimming he'll think it's an awesome game. Just gotta get him swimming haha.
