This week I lost two of my ferrets Spike and Phil. One to old age and one to Adrenal.

Spike was my….unique boy. I got him when he was a baby and picked him out because he bit and jumped out of his cage at me. I tend to like the wackos. The first night home he managed to get himself locked in the freezer and earned himself the name Spike because of his tail being poofed out forever. Little did we know as Buffy the Vampire Slayer fans that he would have much more in common with the vampire Spike than with a poofed out tail.

He was a biter and out for blood from the start and he didn't quite know how to play with the other ferret, he was just off. But he was my special boy and kinda sweet in his one unique way. He had the softest coat out of all of mine and always kept me on my toes when he wasn't biting them

Phil came to me late in his life but kept on going. He lived to be ancient and while I'm not 100% sure of his age I know he got into the double digits. He spent the majority of his life here sleeping away the days in the most comfortable place he could find. One of the others would always find time to go cuddle with him. He still loved to get a few dooks out and a quick war dance when let out before he found his nesting place for the day.

He was also a kisser. Never had a ferret do that before him and it won me over in an instant.

I'm very thankful I had both you two in my life. Sleep tight.

Oh dear :( I am so sorry for your loss, I know how it feels to have one of these special guys leave, I cannot even imagine losing two in one week.

Dook In Peace, Spike and Phil. May you be wardancing illness free with Rogue, Palom, Spock and all the others gone before you <3

    Thank you all, very much.

I'm honestly mostly relieved. It was getting hard for all of us when we knew both of them where in pain, though not enough to make it so they didn't enjoy the little things. But it's been difficult and time out of the cage wasn't possible due to too much stress on both of them which really messed up the other ferrets and resulted in less time out for everyone.

It was really both of their times and now things can start to get back to normal with the other four and Spike and Phil are no longer in any sort of pain.

But I do have to say, loosing both of them within days of each other was not something I was prepared for and I still feel rather removed.

I am so sorry for the loss of both. Sounds like Spike was one lucky ferret to be loved for who he was and allowed a special life.

I'm sorry, Linds. :( (((hugs))) It always helps ease the pain a little bit when you know it is their time to go, but that doesn't make is suck any less. Rest in peace, little guys.

    Journey well, little ones.

    Thank you all a lot.

It was really weird cleaning the cage and only having four faces look out at me but on the flip side they've been able to spend all day and part of the night out the last couple days because I didn't have to worry at all about the dogs being attacked by Spike, or one of them being too rough with Phil. I could sit in my room without worrying about Spike coming up and latching on.

It is in a way relieving and though I really really miss them it's more of a quiet kind of way and I'm happy in a twisted way

  17. Not twisted at all. It was their time, and now things have gotten quite a bit more peaceful. RIP, both of you.

No, not twisted. Sad, but a relief that they are no longer in pain and the other are able to be more free. Very normal feeling, imo.

    ((((((hugs)))))) Lindsey!
