I've been using Trifexis on Finn, which works great, I haven't found a live flea on him since I started using it a year and a half ago. The only thing is, it doesn't do anything for ticks. I have found a ton on him this year, and I need to find something that kills/repels them.

I know Nexguard does fleas and ticks, but not heartworms. Would Nexguard/Heartguard be a good combo? I like the Trifexis, but I think Trifexis/Nexguard would be overkill.

And, if I get a product that repels ticks rather than kills them, would the live ticks be dropped all over my house? Ticks terrify me, and I don't want to wake up to find that the ticks that have dropped off Finn have climbed all over me instead

Thoughts?

There are a few options!

I currently have mine on the Heartgard/Nexgard combo (although I don't use nexgard all if the time). I really like both products, no issues. If I still had easy access to Sentinel, I'd use it vs Heartgard just because I liked that it did whipworms as well and has a flea growth inhibitor, especially since I only use an adulticide intermittently.

There is also a product called Bravecto that lasts for three months, both fleas and ticks, although I think with one breed of tick it only lasts for 8 weeks, so there is that.

There are also two collars that I've heard good things about. One is the Preventic collar. It is purely for ticks, so could be used with Trifexis. I believe it repells ticks, doesn't kill them?

There is also the Seresto collar, it kills fleas and ticks via contact, I believe. Lasts for 8 months. We've had very good sucess with it at our clinic. May be worth looking in to!

We use Ivermectin but we had awesome good luck with Bug Off Garlic, Preventic collars, and currently I'm trying out Wondercide spray.

We are using Sentinel and Frontline Plus. We had a dead tick in our bed while camping, but have not had any on her that I have found.

The fleas are terrible where we are right now. Everyone is complaining, and other than the two she had on her when she first came home, she has no fleas, either.

Just an update to the above. The Advantage II/Sentinel combo worked better for us versus the Frontline Plus/Sentinel combo. She has fleas. When we first got her the Advantage II killed the fleas and kept them off. But it hasn't even been a full month since the switch and we found some on her (how, after swimming and regular baths/brushing I have no idea).

Going to ask for a refund on the Frontline.

Definitly ask for that refund. My vet found that the fleas in our area are resistant to frontline. A frontline rep came out and applied on several dogs and then offered refunds to several more owners due to it not working at all against fleas.
