Thank Elin and Bubbatd. Elin that is a very very very cute pic.

Bubbatd: The link Mrs.Cindy? Um she's just a person I meet on a GR forum and she lives about an hour away from us. I'm getting the book, but from Barnes and Noble cause its about 3$ cheaper there than Amazon. Thats so cool they named their dogs that. Rips_Girl has a Border Collie name Dakota, and I thought that was so cool! I can't seem to find those pics Mrs.Cindy sent me of River and Bear, but River is a kinda dark GR and Bear is a original colored GR. River is due sometime in the beginning of September, but they don't sell their pups till they are 8 weeks, so thats good. But I'm so happy!

Have the parents been tested for PRA, and OFA certified? I didn't see anything about this in any of the posts. Do you have a pedigree on the puppy yet? Would love to see it. I am a pedigree nut butt, lol.

Manchester I have no clue about any of that stuff. But when I go and look at River this Wednesday I will ask and I'm about 100% sure that the pup has a pedigree, but I'll ask for one.

Rofl......all living things have pedigrees, lol. It is just a written list of the parents, grandparents and so on. I think Bubbatd could give you some info on that pedigree.

AND----you may not want to hear this, but unless the parents have been PRAd, and at least have hip x-rays you can see, if not OFAd, RUN LIKE A RABBIT. Also, look up both canine hip dysplasia and Progressive Retinal Atrophy on the internet, and see for yourself why it is vitally important for Goldens to have these tests. And why no breeder would breed unless these very basic tests have been done.

I know you have waited and wanted......but it is like finding a husband. You have to be very careful to make sure you are getting the best.

And I am nosey as heck, so if this breeder has NOT done these tests, I would LOVE to know what her reason is!!!!!!

I looked into the site and her dogs are beautiful !! I'm quite sure she's on the up and up, but do make sure both of them have been OFA & CERF etc certified. With her kids, the pups will be well socialized. Just ask a lot of questions. Doing so will assure her too that you'll be a responsible owner.I'm hoping I can see a picture of Bear too ! All her dogs seem to be well bred.

I asked those questions? If she has not told you that the tests were done, and the results already, then likely she has not had them done.
If you are concerned about getting a puppy that will live a long, healthy life, than you need to KNOW that these tests have been done, and see proof of the results.

If the thought of a dog that is crippled or blind is not upsetting to you, then by all means, don't bother asking. I just assume that most of the people on this forum know how to tell the difference between a backyard breeder, and a responsible, educated breeder. Again....you should not even have to ASK these questions-----She should have told you these things without having to be asked.

If you don't care, no one here can force you to.

And excuse me for trying to ensure that you have no grief because of this puppy. Sure won't happen again.

Oh, and since you are such an expert, find yourself a vet that does PENN HIP. You can at least do that for the poor dog.

Mea culpa. I was under the impression you had studied these things before starting to look for a dog. I see I was wrong. You are being put on ignore, so no problems from me.

BBBYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!

This way I won't have to read any posts about limping dogs, etc.

The way it has been said is very blunt and to the point you may find this mean. I don't think Manchesters is suggesting that poor dog to you as an owner, but to the breeder as a breeder if the tests are not done. She is only trying to guide you to a healthy long living puppy. It is hard sometimes to hear things we don't want to and maybe this breeder is up on everything, wonderful. Just remember to ask lots of questions and it is not insulting to a breeder to be asked things it shows your love for the pup. Breeders like to know that responsible owners are buying their pups and by asking her questions you will show that. Of course I would not suggest accussing her of anything, no that would be mean and nasty, but ask a few questions. I know a golden retriever breeder here and she does those test and guarantees her pups, and you are a smart person so I am sure you will ask what you need to and will get a wonderful pup. Congradulations again.

Dakotah, relax - Manchesters is trying to help, and I agree with her. She was not "mean" when first suggesting that you THINK about what you are doing. It would be wise to listen to her advice, doing so may save you a lot of heartbreak in the future. (I speak from experience - I have a dog that is the product of poor breeding, and on some days, he is miserable. It's horrible for an owner to watch their dog in pain.) Ripley's breeder said her dogs were healthy, and I believed her because I honestly didn't care about the health of the parents at the time! I cared about the cute little puppy in my lap.

Don't turn a blind eye to the quality of the breeder, just because you want a puppy now.

I might even be mistaken, perhaps the breeder HAS done the necessary health tests and just failed to mention them to you, but that seems highly unlikely to me. (Probably the first thing I'd mention would be the fact that the parents were healthy, but that's just me.) Ask her about it - better to be safe than sorry!
