This morning on the news there was yet another story on a study highlighting the negative consequences of drinking diet pop. So, after googling it I decided I am going to give it up for good. Seriously, it was easier for me to quit smoking than it has been to stop the diet pop habit.

I'm also a huge caffeine addict, so I am going to try to replace the pop with coffee....bummer.....

It's really not that good for you. I have reduced my diet soda habit, but there is no way I could give it up. I guess you can't win them all :)

Yeah I have reduced my diet pop intake but I haven't eliminated it all together lol. Sometimes I just want something other than water and Juice is yucky lol and I want that fizz :)

Yep, exactly :) I think as long as I get my water in... It'll be okay. But yeah, it's still not good. Lol

If I'm tired of water, I usually make a drink with some grape juice and seltzer mixed in which gives it a fizz. You could do this with any kind of juice. I don't miss the soda now.

I gave them up as well. I didn't even crave them a bit! I will allow myself a Sunkist every now and then. I can't abandon my Sunkist, and it's better to drink a regular one vs. a diet one (I log it in my WW). But I have a rule that I drink a glass of water before so I just don't greedily guzzle it down and want more.

I don't buy its as bad as all that BUT..

Do your own if you like sparkly. Take club soda and add thing too it. A splash of cream, a crystal lite package... Club soda is just carbonated water no added chemicals. You can even get low sodium as it seems some have salt in it.

There is also flavored sparkling water without any chemicals added in. There is La Croix and Kroger has a store brand in bottles I believe. I'm actually a huge sparkling water fan, I really drink diet pop as a vehicle for caffeine consumption, as I'm not a huge coffee or tea fan.

As bad as it sounds, there are caffeine pills. My boss at my old job gave me some, as I'm not a coffee drinker and I'd always be yawning during 3:00 meetings. They did the trick on days I really needed help.

yeah sparkling water is not my think either. yuck.

Yes there are caffeine pills... but do be careful with those. I used to take them when I was younger and had an early morning job sorting through paper statements (BOOOOOORING... and it makes it really hard to keep your eyes open lol). so I started taking caffeine pills. They gave me the shakes so badly. I couldn't figure out why I was shaking all the time. It was the caffeine pills. I don't know why they did that... coffee doesn't do that to me.

As far as I'm concerned... everything is bad for you these days. at some point you've gotta decide what's worth it and whats not so you can live a happy life :) no matter what you drink or eat... we are all going to die eventually anyway. :) lol

I believe that Crystal Light has artificial sweeteners, which is a big part of the issue with the diet pop.
All artificial sweeteners are not equal.. not sure which ones you are trying to avoid.

Also try to find and read the actual studies. Aspartame is often claimed to be really bad but if you read the actual study they fed RATS like 100 time (or maybe a 1000 times I can't remember) of aspartame than a HUMAN would have... and some got cancer.. ANd then of course you get news saying aspartame causes cancer

I think staying with non processed foods is likely healthier.. but I often see mountains made out of molehills by the media and the bloggers who pick it up.

I use sucralose.. I delved into it and found that there really isnt' anything bad about sucralose. Its not implicated in pretty much anything including an insulin response (in some people saccharin and aspartame sweeteners cause an insulin response)

Yeah, I didn't take them daily by any standards! Just once every few weeks when I was having a lot of trouble. They come in different doses too. 100 mg is plenty for me--I didn't need the 200 mg ones.

yeah I don't remember what dose the ones I took were. I was young and uninformed and didn't think it mattered lol

Of course I wasn't drinking coffee or anything at the time so my tolerance to caffeine wasn't what it is now LOL

sucralose is one of the sweeteners I am totally okay with. I hate soda all together so my caffeine habit is consumed in the form of Red Diamond tea sweetened with Splenda. Calorie free, delicious, and I feel safe about it. I go through a gallon every 2-3 days! lol.

According to what I have read there is evidence that artificial sweetners can actually make your body crave sweet things more. That is what I am more concerned about than the actual chemicals.

Unfortunately Red Bull makes me sick :( Even just the smell of Monster grosses me out. I am going to find a coffee I can deal with....

I love love sparkling water though. I would drink it all the time if I could.

I have heard this but I seem to be able to overcome it. I am really not having trouble staying away from things I shouldn't have. When I crave sweets I just have a glass of tea or some fruit with splenda. But it's not like I forbid myself from having certain things so I have the occasional sweet.

And there are studies showing it doesn't. There is no conclusive evidence either way other than with sucralose. (the spike in insulin is what makes people crave sweet)

I am eating very low carb, I drink tea with sucralose in it all day long. It KILLS my craving for sweet.. it works that way for some people. If that is what you are worried about see if you are having cravings.
