Unfortunately I have no way to copy/paste all of those photos nor would the work be my own but this is an interesting timeline shown to me by a friend. Not sure if you've all seen this yet but it's worth the sharing.

Thanks for sharing, that is definitely interesting. I much prefer the earlier GSD, such beautiful dogs.

Holy cow. Threads like that really put it into perspective. Just wow. It'd be nice to put that all into a "flip book" type thing so that you could quickly see the transition from then to now.

    Wow!

I really like the 1920 one as well as most of the ones from the '30's.

Actually I think the 50's were my favorite.

I like the dogs from 1932 a lot. You can see when they started becoming more and more angulated... Kind of shocking really to see it.

Thanks for grossing me out, lol! I honestly have no idea how anyone can be into show line GSDs....what a sad looking creature it's morphed into.

Looking at older GSDs and the way they've changed has always fascinated me.
Looking at the most recent makes me stomach churn. :(
I'd go so far as to say I prefer many out of standard BYB GSDs over American show lines. Flame away.

    Agreed.

Me too. These are German Show Lines, the American Show lines are a whole 'nother ball of wax. :(

I was literally cringing at the end. Why oh why would anyone knowingly do that do a dog breed.

Then again, look at my breed of choice-the American Pit Bull Terrier. It's getting destroyed faster than you can blink (anyone want a 85 lb blue hippo for Christmas?).

LOL all I can think of is the song I WANT A HIPPOPOTAMUS FOR CHISTMAS!

Ugh I was also cringing towards the end.

Definitely do not like the first few decades at all, with the exception of the 1902 dog. I'm a much bigger fan of the earlier Malinois, especially in comparison to the first German Shepherd Dogs. Starting from 1950's, though, I really love the look and type.

That being said, half a century later, they really haven't completely changed. Just depends on where you look...

Aesthetically, love the 70's, they were all great until somewhere around the 80's.

There are very, very few American show line breeders (or German show line breeders, for the matter) that I would purchase a German Shepherd from. As a matter of fact, I would sooner get no dog, or a pet bred dog, over the "quality" that many breeders are producing nowadays - and this goes beyond showlines and even the breed itself.

I think Knox is pretty close. I was going to post this in a conformation critique thread as well, but I'll stick it here too.

Yeah, if the images were flipped so that they were all facing one direction you could just scroll down and easily see the progressions of hips, and body.
