Why do you need more than one dog? Are you running a puppymill or fighting ring? :lol-sign:
What does a dog have to do with a gun? A dog is a companion and a friend. Why do you need a couple of guns to protect yourself? Are guns your companions or pets? I thought you used a gun for protection only?

Because there is more than one type of gun out there, they can jam and I just keep getting the feeling that I'm wasting my "breath" on you. You don't seem to understand how banning is a bad thing on any front.

I am not talking about banning now, I am talking about having 3 or 4 or 5 guns in your house? This is absolutely unnecessary even if you argue that you need a gun to protect yourself. Your argument is weak.

I have a black and tan beagle and a tri color beagle.

Do you only have ONE boxer? Or do you like a little variety?

My brother has multiple guns that he takes out into the desert to go shooting. Guns aren't used SOLEY for the purpose of protection. But depending on the intruder, one type of gun may be a BAD choice while one may be a good choice. People collect guns as a hobby too. Doesnt mean they HAVE to be used all the time.

Protection is a great side effect from collecting. But if you ban guns, you are automatically prohibited from collecting. Some of the older antique models are absolutely useless as far as actual use goes anymore, but they still fall under the label of "firearm" and are therefore subject to gun laws. My argument isn't weak, you're just not wanting to see it.

OK, so you own guns for pleasure and as a hobby like people collect postage stamps, not just to protect yourself. :)
You can own something for more than one purpose. You can own a dog for both a companion and as a breeding dog. Ban the dog itself, and you lose for companion and your breeder.

I've seen people posting pictures of guns on this forum that don't look to me like they are "older antique models". :D Some even have semi-automatic rifles which have a stand to put them on the ground and can shoot God knows how many bullets per second. You would only use that if you want to start a war or defend yourself against an army.

So its not okay to use a powerful gun for pleasure, STILL knowing it could protect your home if need be?

Never knew guns can bring so much pleasure. ;) I guess I need to move to the U.S. to experience it. I am just trying to show you the benefits of having a ban on guns, but then as some pointed out, there are problems with that as well. It works for some countries and then not for others.

Boxer, you seem to be entirely unable to understand the basics of gun ownership. You seem to think that having a gun means that you intend to take someone's life with it. You seem to think that having a gun makes you blood thirsty. You also, as per one the posts you've just done, fall into the category of people who are afraid of guns based off of their looks. Everything you have posted here in this thread tells the rest of us that you are very immature, picking and choosing to ignore people's arguments to reply to only what suits you, and failing to comprehend anything said in this thread.

Why do you need more than 1 gun or a couple as you pointed out? Are you fighting an army of terrorists or criminals? :lol-sign:
:rofl1: Well.... for starters, pretty hard to shoot a Big Ole Buck with a .22! Or, shoot a duck with the Deer Rifle and so on.....

Some of ours are family heirlooms as well, or have strong sentimental value, such as Hub's very first shotgun, and my first Remington 870 20 gauge, a gift from my Hubby....

Not all useless!

My absolute favorites are muzzle loaders, and my favorite muzzle loader is an 1863 zouave replica. It is flippin' accurate, and a .58 cal to boot. :D The best part is, if I oil it extra good when putting it away, next time I fire a round the first shot is like a flame thrower. Buahahhahaha!

Seriously though, I got it from a guy that used to to hunt during muzzle loader season and he bagged a deer with it every year. It's a great little gun.

Useless for home defense because they take a minute to load. Well, I guess I could fix the bayonet and use that if things got real bad. I do keep a paper cartridge and a percussion cap next to it so I can make the raccoons crap themselves when they are on the porch. The neighbors are too close for me to be shooting live rounds at them. They have only come on our porch once so far. :rofl1:

If I could afford it I would have a giant black powder collection and 1 of every Nagant ever made (don't know why, but I love those things).

Boxer, if you get this far reading I will say that I love shooting. It takes an incredible amount of self mastery to be able to actually hit something consistently. You need to be very in tune with your body, from your breathing, muscles in your fingers, hands, arms, shoulder, trunk, legs, eyelids, everything needs to be totally relaxed.

You have to be aware of your breathing, your heart beat even, and the microscopic figure eights the end of the barrel makes no matter how still you think you're holding it. Then you have to time the pulling of the trigger to the exact moment all those factors are in perfect harmony, so you can put the bullet in the bullseye every time.

Me, I love explosions, and I love peace, quiet, and meditation. Shooting is a paradox, because to be successful you need both. And I love paradoxes.

Not only do you need different guns for different types of hunting, but some people just like to collect them. My father has a collection of antique shotguns, all in working condition. He even loads his own shells so he can actually use them to hunt and shoot skeet. Many of them are absolutely beautiful pieces of craftsmanship.

And add to the different types of hunting guns, my choice for a gun for self defense would be of a type that you wouldn't use for hunting. Not to mention people buy upgrades (I have a cousin fussing over a new deer rifle, he can't figure out what he wants to get).

For that matter there are people just plain collect arsenals . . . not becuase they plan to use them, but because they like too. I don't understand that the way I understand the antique shotguns, but I don't understand collecting bottlecaps either.

Even I, who support some basic gun control, don't think that there should be a limit on the number of guns you own . . . there's no reason for it. Even if you intend to go on a rampage, you can carry only so many of them. If you are selling them illegally, you should be busted for that, not for having too many guns.

I used to run around with a bunch of 20th century war reenactors. These are the guys that you see on the history channel. One of them supplied for hollywood, and worked on a whole bunch of films including We Were Soldiers.

They had all the permits and several owned things like flak cannons, mortars, etc. All used for historical demonstrations. One guy even owns two half tracks, and he's trying to get a tank now. Folks may not realize this, but on those shows and in a few movies a lot of the armament is privately owned. When you consider that an MG 42 can cost upwards o f $40,000, what WWII movie is going to have the budget to buy one? They tend to rent.

And yes, they also loved to play with them. Shooting an MP 40 is just plain cool. Same thing with a fully auto AK, and MG 42s! Oh. My. Gosh. I watched someone cut down a fairly large tree with one (it was his tree if you're wondering). Wow. And it only cost him a few hundred dollars in ammunition. :rofl1:
