I went to "Pet Value" today it's a pet food and accessories store. there they have a food named Natural Balance
    here is their website http://www.naturalbalanceinc.com
there are 4 kinds that I got samples from; potato & fish, potato & duck, venison & brown rice and vegetarian.
I made 4 piles with only 10 grains in each from each kind. she ate # 2 which was potato & duck but really liked venison & brown rice. then she ate the potato fish and well when nothing was left she ate the vegetarian one. I know what she likes is not really what she will be able to eat,...but I just wanted to see the one she would like best. I sent the website to you guys so you could check it out and tell me what you think of this kind of food.

It is a fairly decent food...

Some people on here feed it...

You can get better quality for the money. However if this is all that is available in your area it is better then grocery store foods.

Oh no I don't feed her grocery store stuff YARK!!! I'm just looking into something in case we end up having to do an allergy thing cause we think that she may have food allergies that's why she keeps getting ear infections and between her toes is raw well she keeps chewing at it.

I need help with the food issues actually.

I've been buying toy breed Iams and Beneful "wet" food and giving them the Beneful 1/2 can each once at night and the Iams free feeding.

I'm not sure what kind of food I SHOULD be getting. I thought Iams was quality, but I guess not :)

years ago, you could only find iams at the vet well here in Ontario anyhow now from what I hear, it's gotten to be a lesser brand. But as you I'm looking for a good food mind you for Ginger, I need an hypoallergenic food

Farley & Chloe get the Natural Balance Potato & Duck. I originally started using it as it was recommended to use it to try to decrease or eliminate Chloe's seizures. It has worked great for that but it has also helped with Farley's allergies. He no longer battles the itchies and while his eyes do still get goopy they aren't as bad as they were.

The food you are feeding now are just "fillers" no good things about those foods :(

I would try any of these......

    Canidae

    Eagles Pack

    Innova

These are the "best" foods out there! :)

I am feeding Canidae All Life Stages Chicken and Rice Formula....and they are doing GREAT on it! :)

Oh! I had to switch Dulce's food because of allergies. HORRIBLE allergies.

I went from Innova, to Eukanuba Veterinary Diets: Fish & Potato..Prescription only. Haven't had any problems since. Dogs seems to really like fish.

Iw ould say Natural Balance, Fish & Potato would be great for your dog if he has allergies. Natural Balance isn't that bad of a food.

Iams and Beneful are two of the CRAPPIEST foods out there!! (IMO)

I hope nobody jumps down my throat for saying so, but, they are very poor quality foods, filled with fillers, and do not hold any nutritional value

What food you feed should depend not only on the quality of the food, but also how you're dog reacts to it. While Natural Balance is a good-quality food, I would aim for something better if possible, and if my dogs didn't do well on those brands, try higher "low-quality" foods such as Natural Balance. If my dogs did well on it, I'd feed it.

Excellent post. :) I didn't realize we had agreed until after I posted. We think the exact same thing!

Anyway, the above foods are great foods for your dog.

Being a Bulldog of course Titus has his fair share of allergies. We tried Nutro Ultra hollastic, Royal Canin, and he still had some allergies. I switched him to Natural Balance Potato & Duck and he has done great on it. It helped with his tear stains too. I think it all depends on your dog. There are alot of great foods out there, but just because one dog does great on it doesn't mean that all dogs will. You just have to find one that fits your dogs needs, and in Titus' case Natural Balance Potato & Duck works for him.

Smokey has been on Natural Balance since I adopted her 6 months ago. I took her to a Vet Dermatoligist since she was supposed to have food Allergies when I got her, and I wanted her checked out. The Dermatoligist as well as my Vet both think that Natural Balance is an excellent food. I tried some of the frequently mentioned foods on this forum as well, and Smokey either didn't like them or had digestive problems with them. She eats the Natural Balance like it is Surf and Turf and her coat just shines with it. She is now eating the Sweet Poatato and Fish and before that the Venison and brown Rice. I also give her slices of the NB Rolls in her Kong Toy and she loves them too.....

Hudson eats Natural Balance Fish and Sweet Potato. He went from being a sickly, mangey pooch, to completely healthy, happy in 2 months with a shiney coat! So, it's actually *two* people on here who are THRILLED with it.

I thought Beneful was a higher quality food considering at petsmart, petco, ect it's one of the higher priced foods. It looked like it had lots of meat, veggies, ect and my dogs really seem to love it.

IAMS I was a little weary of, but I know so many people that feed their dogs this, that I didn't think it was SO bad.

KrisyKris... Beneful is mostly corn. Corn is undigestable by dogs and will eventually lead to allergies in many cases. It's just a bunch of empty calories. All of what we consider "premium" dog foods will have meat as the first listed ingredient, none will have corn, nor will they have anything called "by-products". By-products are just ground up rejects from meat processing plants including all kinds of animal parts that are not digestable.
