I used to have a 55 gallon planted South American freshwater tank. It was so gorgeous: I had some awesome plantscaping in there.

I also had a 6 gallon and a 10-gallon tank. But I had to downsize: I just didn't have time to take care of them all. And planted tanks can take a lot of work. But Hubby promised me a pond next year. So I am happy.

I love my saltwater it's honestly real easy. Me and freshwater don't work, can never keep anything alive???? Seahorses are just so weird to me, my friend as a 55 for just seahorses.
Right now i have 2 perculas,2 scotter Blennis,Some snails and hermit crabs, about 20 pounds live rock, 1 cleaner shrimp, 1 baby serpent star(hitchiker), and LOTS of wierd sponges, plants and corals.
When i get my camera back i will post pics!

www.bettatalk.com has a ton of fish and a ton of info to go along with them.

I have just the one, Kabuki right now:

I need to take a newer picture of him, the top of his tail has turned blue! I have a USA fish now! :) He's a tough little bugger too...the salesclerk accidently dropped him when I got him last year and the two nights ago my dog bumped into the table his bowl was on and shattered it...he's still happily swimming along in a new bowl.

I used to have a great 10-gal set up with neon tetras, neon blue dwarf gouramis, powder blue dwarf gouramis, sunset platties and an algae eater.

Here are a couple pictures from last night that really shows off his tail:

Sorry for the bluriness...my auto focus kept wanting to focus on the bottle of food, not the fish.

Looks very different in his recent pics!

Don't you have anything any bigger you can keep him in though...?

This is a temp bowl to replace the 1 gal that was shattered a few days ago. I get paid Friday, so he'll have a nice new home then. (I know they don't cost much, but I'm on a serious tight budget). He's got the biggest bubble nest I've seen him make in a while, so I don't think he's complaining too much. ;)

This container holds about a 1/2 gallon, so it's not as tiny as it may look in the pictures.

That's good.
Try and get something around 3g.
Much roomier and I personally think (again, my personal opinion) that no fish should be kept in anything under 2g, so 3g would be that much nicer :).

Most of my bettas are kept in one gallons they do fine ;) But Risteek is in a 1.5 gallon and Mandarin will be moving into a 10 gallon all to himself once I re-decorate it. But if you can afford it get the biggest tank you can afford.

Blue_Dog,
To be honest, in MY opinion, I think it is cruel to keep them in anything less then 2g. I have had many and have found them to be more active, colourful, and healthier in general in a larger tank. Infact, I also have found that all my betta's kept in a heated and aerated tank last longer and are much happier.
I have heard people say that naturally, they live in TINY bodies of water (large puddles, LOL) and will survive and be fine in tiny tanks. However, I feel that just because they CAN doesn't mean they should be kept in such small tanks.
Just my 2 cents :).
