We both sat down and looked at dogs in my dog book, The ultimate encyclopedia of Dogs, Dog breeds, & Dog care. We were looking at all types of dogs, both small and large. But finally we both decided upon the Hamiltonstovare, I think it's a good looking dog. The book said that they were even-tempered, and they were a good size. Just wanted to keep you guys updated! Can't wait to get the dog!

Glad to hear about the decision. I never heard of the breed, are they rare?

It sounds like the Hamilton Hound is rarely found outside of Sweden and sometimes in Great Britain. You might have to back up and consider a Harrier, one of the stem breeds the Hamilton came from.

Yeah, I have been searching on websites, only one breeder... And he lives in texas, lol. This sucks, it was the only dog we agreed upon.

Have you considered a toy poodle? But as far as far as the owner living in another state, sellers often shipped dogs via airplane to other states. I don't know if that helps any.

Too much of a hassle. My dad likes to meet the breeder and the dog also, Texas is a long drive for us. We live in San Diego. I tried searching for Foxhound breeders, (I am trying to get the biggest dog possible that my dad will allow) but had no luck. I am just going to settle with a Harrier.

Does your Dad agree because of it being unusual ?? I'm not familiar with the breed.

Why do you want a dog "as big as possible"?
I love big dogs, don't know why. I love Greatdanes, Mastiffs, German Shepherds, Dalmations, all that stuff. Ofcourse, I love a lot of small terriers and toy breeds (my grandparents own two chihuahuas), but I prefer big dogs.

Doesn't a foxhound fill the bill ?? 2 inches and 5 lbs. for a good breeding ? Good luck and keep us posted !!!

lol, no. He likes it because it's of medium size and has short hair (he doesn't want my dog to shed). We both didn't know much about the breed I just picked it because it seemed like such a nice dog. The Hamiltonstovare in the book had a sweet, adorable face.

I understand..... know where you're coming from. If you Dad decides on this breed and it sheds like all dogs do, he can't blame you !! Good thinking !
