I hope something can work! I'd even be willing to do a temp. foster but I live in Kansas and that's just not feasible for me to go out there.

Does anyone know this shelters adoption policy with babies? I know some shelters won't adopt if you have kids under a certain age but if that is not an issue let me run it by my fiance tonight and see if there is anyway we can make the trip to pull her out.

I am not sure he will go for having to make three trips but it does not hurt to ask.
Well, you can always hit him with the cost end of it . . . $100 to adopt a $1000+ dog ;) What a bargain! ;)

Absolutely no idea, but I doubt they care. I can call and ask in the morning if you would like?

And where do you live? If you need to spend the night here, you're welcome to..

Nolu, I am in Newport News the trip would be about 3 hrs each way if I mapquested it right, so no big deal there.

The hard part would be convincing my fiance to make the trip because weekends are his only time off and he has been doing lots of overtime this week...so hoping he is in a good mood when he gets home tonight. He is off at 11:00 so I got lots of convincing to do. *fingers crossed*

Renee, as much as I would love to keep her myself there is no way that could be done. :(
We are at my mothers now and she already has her dogs and there is no way our landlord would go for another. Though he would tell them its okay for us to have a dog so she could get pulled out.

Let's hope everything works out. I really want to see this girl get a forever home.

I guess a relay. My car isn't big enough, but I could contribute some cash. One problem is going to be the adoption contract . . . we need to know if we can switch her off to someone else without breaching it.

Lil, she's in a high kill . . . she's going to Texas . . . I wouldn't worry too much about a no-transfer contract if it comes right down to it. ;)

Let's find out what we can about her, ask all the usual questions and get her out of there - by hook or crook, lol.

Wilson was supposed to "not be transferred ownership"---lol! I don't think that is the biggest worry here--I agree with Renee--get her out, then worry about the ownership thing.

Bunny, if you need help with gas, PM me, and I can make a contribution. You'll need to call them ahead of time though, because of the two-three whatever visit thing.

Oh, and something to be aware of as far as interaction with other dogs goes: don't be alarmed if you see her "snap air" when a new dog gets too familiar in her personal space. That's Fila for "back off, I don't know you that well yet," and it's more of a herding action than it is an act of aggression or even defensiveness.

So here is the deal. I talked to my fiance he is not 100% for the idea BUT he does want me to call the shelter and find out their hours (if they are open on weekends) so we can set up an appointment that way if he decides it's a go things are already lined up.

His one concern and what is putting him on the fence is it's a strange dog and we have Hunter. Any advice to ease his mind?

If we go we will head out tomorrow morning.

*fingers crossed*

Well, poo . . . I went back to try to pull up some of Linda's old threads with pics of Brutus and her granddaughter, McKinley, but the pics I wanted have been moved and are no longer accessible :(

Kharma is a rarity, in that she avoids children. She's had some rough encounters with loud, rude children at the store so she gets behind me and gives me the "can I go to my quiet place now?" face. However, she likes quiet children. Early on, before she learned to avoid them, one of my favorite memories is of her laying on the floor with a couple's 9 month old son, nose to nose, just quietly communing :)

Standard dog/child rules apply, of course, never without supervision, but Filas and children are normally natural allies. ;)

It's not the Fila part. He knows Fila's are awesome with children. :)

His concern is it's a dog we don't know. So the concern would be with any dog.

I think that considering I will be in the backseat with Hunter and this girl to supervise we should be fine.

ROFL I think he should more concerned with me getting crushed having this baby on my lap!

Ditto. They aren't going to find out, and I don't care - she'll be loved and in a good home, and they are making that hard enough as it is.

Bunny, if your hubby doesn't want her or for some reason (knock on wood) it doesn't work out I am still open as a backup foster home for her, especially since she has a home now. I have the room. :)
