Hi there, I am new here - only joined yesterday (see member introductions) and I already have loads of questions. I have read various posts on this forum and am a bit confused. One thing I am certain about is that the Science Diet I have been feeding is headed straight for the trash! I had no idea... Unfortunately I am unable to get any of the recommended foods. The only one I could get would be the Royal Canin, but I don't know how good that really is. My French Bulldog, Phoebe, is 3 and a half and has recently had a spate of allergies on her face and I guess they could be food related? She weighs 11.5 kilos. I have started feeding her raw minced beef with the kibble (Science Diet, till I can get a better quality) in the morning, and in the evening I cook either brown rice or potatoes, mixed with fresh vegetables, cottage cheese and every other day a raw egg. I would be so grateful if somebody could advise me how much protein (raw beef, veal, lamb or chicken) she should get each day.  I went to a pet shop yesterday and the bought the best (or so I think) kibble I could find. It is a locally (Switzerland) produced food. Sorry to go on, but these are the ingredients - rice, lamb meal, potato protein, stabilized wheat germ, carob, brewers yeast, linseed, beet pulp, poultry fat, dried egg product, fruit fiber, phosphorus, calcium, magnesium, salt, poultry-based aroms, yucca extract, lecithin, choline, FOS, vitamins A, D3, E, B1, B2, B6, B12, K, PP, biotin, trace elements i.e. zinc, manganese, copper, iodine, iron, selenium. Antioxidant: Vit E. Preservative: potassium sorbate. It would be great to hear your view on this. I want to give her the best food I can. I haven't opened up the bag first as I would love to hear your views, and I could always swap it for another brand. Thanks. :)

I am not the food expert. Mordy is the person that you should listen to but she's not online right now. In my opinion that food you found sounds pretty good. She'll be able to help you more.

As for feeding a raw diet you'll need to do a lot of research. Mordy can point you in the right direction as well. As for how much to feed I believe the general rule is 2% of their body weight. So, one of my dogs weighs about 100 lbs and would get about 2 lbs of food a day. If they are extremely active give more...

I hope that helps!

You can do some research at Mordy's site if you'd like. www.mordanna.com/dogfood

Thank you Saje - the site is fantastic and I will read it fully over the course of the day. Oops, forgot to mention, that I also mix in fresh (frozen first) minced meat with the potato/rice and veg.
