Hi all,
I have a friend...well more of an acquaintence who has a 5 year old GSD. Anyways, he took the dog into be fixed a few years ago and when they checked his heart out they found it was enlarged and the vet said that he could never be neutered because going under the knife was to risky for him. Is that true? I mean god forbid the dog ever needed life saving surgery or even minor surgery due to an injury and had no choice to be put under anestesia then. Pretty scary to think about it :(

has he had a full cardiac workup to find out what exactly is going on with his heart?

my ancient poodle (may she rest in peace) had congestive heart failure to go along with her huge floppy heart and we still put her under and did her teeth because they were in such horrible shape.

I would leave this up to the vet .............if the dog is 5 and being intact is no problem , I'd let him be.

Yeah, he is staying intact anyways because of the enlarged heart and won't be neutered. I was just interested in anyone knowing of this because I had never heard of it before. Anyways, the owner did do some other tests on him before neutering was totally out of the question.
