So yesterday my neighbors Jack Russel was playing with my dog through the fence. They were having fun, and we decided, oh what a great Idea, we'll just put the little dog over the fence so they can play. Silly Humans, My dog immediately went apeshit at the other dog being in his territory and bit him.

At the time we thought he was okay, she said he was great all day he went with his mom to the dog beach and swam in lake michigan. I guess later they noticed that Vlad had punctured his skin when he bit him.

Today she came over, she says he's acting really lethargic and not eating. But neither of us know what to do. (She wanted to make sure Vlad had had all his shots, which he has.)

Is it worth going to the emergency animal clinic? (Apparently that is much more expensive.) Or should she just wait till Monday? Is there anything we can do???? HELP!

I feel aweful!!!!!! It sounds like it might have gotten infected (oh god, lake Michigan water bleeeech) I will probably offer to help with Vet bills, especially if she decides to take him to the emergency vets.

More likely, the dog has gotten into algae or som ething toxic in the lake. If the symptoms don't improve, or she gets worse, I would take her to the clinic. There was a post on here recently about dogs becoming very ill after swimming in lakes due to certain types of algae. It can be very serious.

Honestly, I'd have her GIVE the Emerg vet a call AT LEAST...

That is free. Tell her to give them all the symptoms and let them decide if hes needed to come in to see them.

if he doesn't drink the rest of the day I'd be rushing him there.

I saw her with him this afternoon on their way to the petstore to get him a thermometer. She says he ate some yogurt and oatmeal, so at least he's eating. It's really hot today, so it wouldn't surprise me if some of his lethargy was due to that. She's gonna take him to the vet tomorrow and at least get some antibiotics.

I'm so glad she's been so reasonable about this and not blamed me. (NOt that it is my fault, but some people are Craaaazy.)
