Awww bless her! my mum got into an awkward situation with her neighbour, my mum walks Barley every lunch time and she knew that the neighbours didn't let their dog out at all at lunch time so she said would they like her to take him when she went out as he wasn't any trouble. He's a really nice Lab (failed guide dog due to hip problems) so they said yeah that would be great, which was fine at first, after a while they just assumed that she would come every day, and so mum felt obliged to ring them to tell them when she wasn't available to take him out and they would get really cross with her!! But as I said to mum he's not her responsiblity and if they don't have the time for him they shouldn't have him! Which is a shame as he is a lovely dog and I would take him in a flash as Gus loves him, but they won't let me have him!
