Yesterday when out walking my dog on concrete walk way there was a hot air ballon which was flying very low, it spooked my dog so bad that she was running around snarling, tail tucked well under and every hair on her body was standing up.

When I finally managed to get to her there was blood coming from her back paws, I got her home as she would not stop pulling to get back. I have looked at her paws and she has basically worn the nail down, its a bit like a graze you get on your knee when you fall.

My vet is out of town and I was wondering if I keep her nails clean will this be OK or should I go to another vet to get them sorted. Today there is two which look raw, the bleeding didnt last long yesterday at all. I have been cleaning her nails with tea tree oil and water and they dont seem to bother her she is walking and running around as usual. How long will it take for them to heal?

Can anyone help me?

As long as you keep them clean, they should be just fine.

Just use warm soap and water to wash them - tea tree oil, as wonderful as it is, can be irritating to a sore.

Thanks for the reply I was using tea tree as an antiseptic I was worried that she may get an infection but I will move to soap and water.

Thanks again
