dogs destroyed backyard

Ok Dog lovers...... I used to have nice bed of bark dust ,,,,, plants,,,,,, and then it became....holes with mudd and more mudd and almost all my plants are not gone...... So I bought 10 yards of river rock and did my beds in river rock.... I am now starting to buy some plants which will last.... some of the plants that did last only cause they didnt like them...were mugo pines.... Now I am thinking of planting some roses....you know the thorny type and some blue star juniper... and some bayberry they have thorns too... what do you guys think I know there are plants that are bad for dogs.... but gee whats a gardener to do......

this is what my back yard looks like now..... got any ideas.....

You could try some vine maple or japanese maple. My boss's wolf hybrid dug dens all over her yard, so she landscaped with them and boulders, it seemed to work well.

I don't know how bougainvillea would do in your climate, but they are extremely dog resistant.

Pieris japonica does really well if you start with a larger plant. They bloom in the winter too so that is nice.

Pampas grass, totally indestructible. It has beautiful huge plumes.

Other shrubs I can think of are:
dogwood
mock orange (go for the native variety, they smell sooo good),
lilac
quince

Low growing plants and flowers:
Shasta daisy
Lavender
Rosemary

I'd also suggest a sandbox or designated "digging area" for the dogs... mostly for your sanity.

I'd use large planters on rocks for color ..... and yes. dogs need a sand area for potting etc !
