Wally is currently on TOTW Wetlands formula, he also occasionally gets Pacific Stream for a change of flavor.

The only problem is TOTW makes him reek. His breath stinks, he is gassy and it stinks, and overall he just stinks. His poops go from regular to a little runny too.

He otherwise is doing well on it. He is no longer itchy/scratching all the time. The redness of his groin area is gone and he no longer constantly feels the need to groom his legs. His lip area is no longer inflamed either which is great! His coat is luxuriously soft, and he just seems to be more "Wally"

What else could he go on in the price range of TOTW that would make him less stinky?

I'm thinking about Pinnacle because we have easy access to it(my mom works right near Petco) and it seems like an overall good choice.

Ideas?

Is he allergic to anything? Earthborn Holistics is in the same price range here, though it's more expensive in some places. It's similar in quality to TOTW and grain free. If you don't care about being grain free, Earthborn also has some non-grain free options as well. My dogs are doing better on it than they did on TOTW and they don't smell at all. I did notice TOTW pacific made them stink.

I think it was just something in the other food he was on. I'm not sure if it was grains or not, and haven't run an allergy panel as his itching has ceased to exist since the switch.

Makes me believe it was grain, but the other food also incorporated "real" meat, and it was before I really got into reading labels (Purina One)-- so it may as well been that. He was on it before they added the meaty bits and he was fine, just wasn't really thriving off it. I recently got a trial bag of Purina ProPlan for dogs at a dog show and gave it a whirl, just to test to my theory. He went straight back to itching non-stop within hours. Again this variety also had the "real meat" (appears to be freeze dried). On Purina One Beyond when I ran another test on him out of checking off the bad, he did quite well, but was still uncomfortable, just not as bad as before. So I do think it is grains.

I recognize how bad a brand Purina is, so don't bash me for that. I was just trying different ingredient panels.

So with that thinking, I'm wondering if we should just stay grain free

See if anywhere near you carries Earthborn Holistic. There are 4 grain free flavors (Coastal Catch is fish, Great Plains Feast is bison and lamb, Primitive Natural is turkey chicken and whitefish, and Meadow Feast is lamb), and GPF and Meadow Feast are both potato free which is awesome.

Your retailer should have them on a Buy 10 Get 1 free, and if so then they cost less than TOTW once you factor that in. It's also a lot better quality than TOTW imo.

Sounds like it could be a multitude of things, but grain isn't a bad place to start. My dogs are not allergic to grains, however, we feed grain free because their coats and energy levels are better on grain free kibble. Right now we're doing Earthborn Holistics Primitive Naturals formula- they are more enthusiastic about eating it and they look so good. They also have smaller poops, meaning higher digestibility. :)

Gonzo smelled gross & fishy on TOTW too... and poops are baddd!

My favorite kibble is Nature's Variety Instinct. They have several limited ingredient formulas. My dogs do really well on the Duck & Turkey formula. ;3 Very good coats, smell, energy & poops.
