You'd probably enjoy Zombicide then. It's all about teamwork.

I HAVE to play Agricola. I've been dying to play, but miss all the game nights for various reasons.
I'll have to check that out. Thanks! :D

We've had fun playing Agricola, though we still have to keep the rulebook out while we play... and we are still playing on the easiest level. (We lovingly refer to it as the "stupid people version".)

We are heading to a friend's house tomorrow to play Cards Against Humanity, so excited! We don't play games very much as a couple, husband hates how competitive I am. We'll play occasionally with friends though!
I've played that game once. It made me uncomfortable. LOL

OMG I love board games! Life, Monopoly, Pictionary, Sorry and Apples to Apples are common in my house... We usually play every Sunday. We go to Walmart, rent a movie, watch it and after that we play a board game! Pictionary is my favorite game ever!

Monopoly has been banned at all family gatherings.

The older cousins (ages 18+) and adults used to play but as a result of alcohol combined with.. a combination of real money being thrown down (as well as personal belongings being used to pay off debts), personal threats of violence, mafia war like take-overs of entire sides of the board, weird family-made up rules, blackmail, far too many players playing (we used to put two boards together like disney monopoly and regular and make a super monopoly) and of course cheating in all forms..
the game is now banned.

As fun as it was.. I mean, we do adore each other in our dysfunctional loud huge way.. it got crazy lol seriously, once we had like $400 cash, a rather expensive watch, a "coupon" for babysitting and like 1000 frequent flyer miles and 2 shots in FREE PARKING
(The family rule is that you give a fee to free parking if you commit anything on the long long list of "monopoly faux pas": saying it's your property when it isn't, making people wait for you if you go to the bathroom, picking up a piece that is not yours, get caught cheating i.e cheating is allowed unless you are caught, take a phone call etc..etc..)

We have since moved onto clue and apples to apples lol no major problems for now... but give it time :rofl1:

It's funny because especially with the adults, being from haiti, many did not have childhoods featuring board games.. so it's a very new concept lol

but yes, we do like our boardgames around here lol

People definitely still play! We have a group that comes in every Wednesday at work and just sits there and play board games. We have to give them a 10 minute warning before we close and basically kick them out, they'd stay there all night if we let them. :lol-sign:

We also have card tournaments Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

We love board games! We do game nights once in a while :) It's awesome. Usually there are so many of us, that we need to play 2 games at the same time. ;)

I liked reading about all your favorites and how many enjoy regular board game night. That Apples to Apples sounds like a common favorite, so I will have to get that one and try to get the family together more often for more frequent game playing.

Fran, your story sounded down right intense with your family. LOL. It's probably a good thing Monopoly is banned.

I really enjoy Pandemic. I'm not a competitive person at all, the idea that it's everyone against the game is right up my alley! I just ordered Forbidden Island (since it's so cheap!) based on this thread as a Christmas present for Zach.

We also really enjoy Carcasonne and Blue Moon City. We have a couple other games like that which I'm not a huge fan of (just way too complicated to be enjoyable) but those ones are fun.

For "regular" games, I looooooooove Phase 10. That's our go to game when parents are visiting. It's a rummy type game, with basic rules but it actually involves a little strategy. You can have a conversation during the whole thing, which is a luxury not afforded by these complicated board games!

We love them at the Donovan house... Especially settlers of catan, apples to apples, Mexican train, cranium, and hoopla.

OH man... LOVE phase10. that was a big game for my side of the family when I was growing up.

We would rent a cottage in Northern Ontario every summer for a week or two and at night while we were waiting for the store to close (so we could go up and fish off the gas dock lol) we would always play phase 10. So much fun.

Although computer and video games aren't a bad thing either. I remember many nights gathered around the Nintendo 64 with my dad and siblings playing 007 on competition mode where you select a level and you have to go around and kill each other. LOL I know sounds really family oriented doesn't it but OMG it was so fun and hilarious lol We would spend hours as a group playing that

Another game I like is Scattergories.

OMG, we just bought a new board came called quelf. It was so much fun to play. It's one of those interactive games where you might have to sing, dance, recite a poem...etc. We were rolling with laughter. I highly recommend it. I also enjoy the classics like monopoly, scrabble, life...etc.

Quelf is hilarious! We played that once with some family of mine and we couldn't stop laughing the whole time!

We love to play games, but don't really have anyone who has time to play games. And it is hard because we all have little kids, and they make playing grown up games hard.

I am excited though that Mason is going to start getting old enough to play some games so he is getting Chutes and Ladders and Hi Hi Cheerio for Christmas.
