I don't rent, but we do have a lot of dog friendly apartment complexes in the area. They even provide poop bags on the complex property.

Everywhere here has size limits. There's a reason I live in the ghetto. And the deposit per dog was ridiculous.

A lot of places have breed restrictions galore, but again hence me living in the ghetto. My neighbors suck, but whatevs I'd rather have my dogs.

The highest number of dogs I've ever rented with were 3, but they were all chihuahuas. Every apartment complex that I've lived in had a fish tank rule as well. We've always had one tank under 30 gallons until we bought our house, and I think the limit was 40 gallons at the most.

Apartments here generally allow 2-3 dogs under 25lbs. I rented at a condo complex one year (there was a management company that rented out investor condos- this was during the "boom") and they had the most relaxed pet policy I've seen while sharing walls. As long as your dogs all added up to under 50lbs (regardless of breed), they were allowed. There were a couple of people who were "grandfathered in" with Dobes, even. The year we moved out, though, they added $50 per pet a month in pet rent, as well as doubling the pet deposits from $250 to $500 a pet.

Even houses around here are tricky. Most still have that "2 dogs under 25lbs each" rule. Of course, you can always find the exceptions to the rule where they allow multiple larger dogs. I've known people who have rented with large dogs, "dangerous" breeds, multiple dogs... but it's usually if they have a lax landlord (and a pet "resume" to show their dogs won't rip apart the house).

I also live in a VERY dog friendly area. Most restaurants with outside seating allow (and encourage!) dogs, there are a ton of parks that allow dogs... we're just very pro dog around here.

When we were looking at rentals in Hawaii, it was VERY hard to find ones that allowed dogs. It seemed like most of them said "cats only" for pets... even for houses and condos that were privately owned. At the time, we only had 2 chihuahuas and would've had to settle on a place to live that allowed dogs.

When we got Sally we had two cats and two lizards, and our landlord "felt sorry" for pit bulls so she let me have Sally as long as I agreed to spay her with no extra charge. We got Jack just before we moved and she didn't care.
