It's one of those holiday items that they sell in every grocery store, but I've never met anyone who actually likes them or has bought one!

So... do you like the "standard" holiday fruitcake? Like this one:

I've never had it before, but it just doesn't look like something I'd enjoy! Give me a scoop or peppermint ice cream or a slice of pumpkin pie instead :p

I tried a fruitcake once...never again. I hate them. Or at least I hated the one I tried. LOL

I voted Pumpkin Pie, because I would much rather receive a Pumpkin Pie as a gift! :D Pumpkin Pie is AMAZING! ^^

I don't mind real fruitcakes...like actual pound cake-ish stuff with different fruit in it. But I am super picky about it. I definitely don't like pumpkin pie.

Store-bought is one of those traditions, I think. We just keep it around to laugh at every year.

I like home made versions - would never eat the store bought ones because they look fake/disgusting.

BLEHHH. My grandma is the only person I know who likes fruitcake.

I've never seen/had a homemade fruitcake, though. Is it real fruit, or is it still those weird jelly bits?

Fruitcake...is evil! Yuck!

However the European version of Christmas bread or Stollen is pretty good and I definitely like that :)

My Oma made one that was sooo good. I'm planning on getting the recipe from my aunt soon because I kinda miss it. It used canned cherries and real dried fruit as far as I know, along with walnuts I think... I'll post the recipe here when I get it!

I voted I hate fruitcake, which isn't true. I'll eat it, but I'll eat pretty much anything and of the things I eat it is definitely at the bottom if the list.

I panicked and tried to reverse my vote mid-load so I could vote for pumpkin pie, but to no avail. I do live pie.

This is what my grandmother makes, although she's always called it fruitcake.

She also makes kolache cookies. We have a lot of Eastern European recipes, actually.

My family is originally from Germany with roots in Russia...so that is where all this comes from with my family as well :)

We have a greek influence from one of my grandfathers...lots of good food to be had there too :D

I like Fruitcake. I've never understood the big deal about it, and why it's so hated, but I suppose how would I if I like it? :p

Nope, not I.

However, growing up, one of my mum's best friend's hubbies was from England, and he would spend months in advance preparing traditional British Christmas pudding for all of our families. Complete with baking coins and other goodies inside, aging it for weeks, and flaming it with soaked brandy.

It was always served with rum butter and was gloriously delicious, and I miss it like CRAZY.

I should make my own. :D
