What do you think about brittany spaniels?
I own one and she is just amazing.
How many people here ownes one or knows someone who does?
Don't you think they are just beautifully nuts, sweet, and friendly dogs?

I would like to hear your opinions!

I dont own one, but I have looked at the breed online when I was researching dog breeds. They have a level of class, that I find charming in a dog.

have worked with a few...some are as you say a total delight..others that have been bred "too High" are hard to manage and big roamers. (and escapers to roam)..so it is all the breeder and the trainer that puts forth a dog that is trustworthy...my old boss said if you breed a high dog to a moderate you get a dog you can work with..but two high dogs is something altogether different. It is almost the edge of madness. their desire so strong that they will not listen to a thing in training.

    Hi,
Could you please let me know what a high dog is? My native language is not English (as you probably already noticed!) and I do not know what that expression means.
Thank you for sharing your ideas!

sorry it is slang..a dog that has too strong of a desire, very intent on the prey. in this case the bird. If a dog is too much you cant even get his attention to hold steady..his one goal is to race away after it until this is accomplished..no matter what..a more reasonable dog still knows you are beside him and will follow your instructions while keeping his goal of the bird..more managable i guess is a better choice..sorry.
I found a brit once and took it home..i could tell that several ribs had been broken at one time but this dog sure didn't act like it..they had healed however they were and he just never stopped running. I thought i had him secure in a side run but when i went inside to call he had dug his way out 9a matter of minutes) and raced away..that is a dog that is on the edge. He was rail thin and knew only one thing..to run, even tho he was terribly hot he didn't even stop to drink. Then there was little Samantha at the kennels. A pup of pure delight. I would set her on top of the trailer and back up a few steps clap my hands and she would just sail the air into my arms. I was able to back up quite a ways. Then she learned to flip as well. She was a beauty.

Thank you for that explanation, then I might say that most brittanys I know are "high dogs" since they are quiet hard to handle and full of energy. My dog had even hunted birds from the backyard a couple of times and bring them to me proud of it! (but she wouldn't let it in front of me but run away and expect me to chase her, she never stops!) (And it was not nice to see her with the birds) but they just can't help it.
