I'm watching something right now about all different types of disordered eating and it made me curious. Do you think you have a healthy relationship with food? Why or why not?

I think so. I eat food that I enjoy and that taste's good - I try to eat healthy, but I'm not above eating absolutely junk when I feel like it. LOL I'm not overweight and I do my very best not to eat when I'm bored.

I was raised on home grown, home processed, home cooked food made from scratch, so that is what I like. Mike calls me picky because I refuse to touch most canned vegetables/fruits - I like them fresh or canned myself. I just think most bulk processed foods taste funny. :/

Not at all. It's a battle that I will probably always struggle with. Eating disorders And body image issues seem to run in my family.

It's something that I want to change but am having a hard time doing. I don't have a kitchen and don't eat on a regular schedule which makes me binge on all the wrong things when I do get access to food.

I'd like to think so. I really like food and overall try to eat healthyish with a lot of home made food from scratch but I don't feel guilt or anger when I eat something not great for me but that's delicious.

I try to recognize when I'm full at the moment rather than ten minutes of eating later and try very hard not to eat out of boredom. I think I succeed overall with both

I don't obsess about it, I enjoy it and I try to utilize it to it's potential. I try to have fun with it, try different things and figure out ways to make things taste good but not binge.

Meh. Maybe? I don't really care about eating. I like to eat when I'm hungry, but that might not happen until nighttime.

I do sometimes eat when I'm bored, but never a whole lot. I'm not overweight either.

I used to really, really not... my mom was one of those "you don't get up from the table until you've eaten everything on your plate!" parents, and to add to that, I was diagnosed with diabetes when I was 11... I snuck candy all. the. time. I used to ride my bike to the local grocery in middle school with my friends, buy oreos and candy and HIDE them in my room. :( It was so, so sad. I have battled my weight FOREVER because I love bread and fried stuff, ugh...

...then el boyfriendo came along. He used to cook really rich decadent amazing stuff for us (think lobster mashed potatoes, or one time lobster grilled cheese... filet mignon, chocolate everything...) until he started cycling. He became SuperFit and it became his goal to help me get myself in shape & better manage my diabetes... I eat really healthy now and only what I need like 90% of the time... I will admit, he went on vacation recently and I polished off an entire pizza on my own, in between salads and grilled chicken ;)

Eh, I think most of my food issues are relatively harmless.

I do tend to hoard food (a product of my upbringing, I imagine), but now that I live on my own for most of the year I just keep a medium-sized tupperware under my bed with "special" things in it (not sweets/candy necessarily...just things that I really like or comfort foods). I go through it once a week and throw away anything that I don't like/is expired. Sometimes that is hard, but I am working on it. I used to also hoard liquids which was more of a problem (I had open glasses of liquid all over my room at school). Now I only do that with apple juice and it's only in certain places in the house.

I eat fairly healthily, and don't worry overly much when I have a treat most of the time.

I go through phases where I get really stressed and I have more intense food issues, as I'm one of those people who tends to go off their food when stressed. But typically I fluctuate within a healthy range and only rarely do I become underweight and need to act (my freshman year of college, for example, I voluntarily entered an outpatient treatment program for anorexia until I got everything under control).

For the most part, yes. When I was a kid I snuck food because I was hungry all the time. I was fed regular meals and I ate them fine, I'm not sure why I was always hungry. I was a chubby child, and I was tested for thyroid diseases etc. and everything always came up normal.

My issues with food these days are that I now have a job where I work from 2:30pm to 10:30pm and I don't get home until after 11 at night, and when I get home I want to eat, and what I was eating was chips and salsa. I do pack myself a dinner every day, a main course (which could be anything from chicken and potatos to cheese raviolis to tyson's popcorn chicken if I'm lazy and don't cook), along with fruit. I eat a little of what I made myself for dinner at lunchtime, and then eat a larger portion of that for dinner. I always eat breakfast too, which is usually cereal or toast or flaxseed granola with milk. I've gained 16lbs since I started this job, clearly I'm doing something wrong with what I eat. It is not a sedentary job by any means, I'm always on my feet walking dogs and cleaning stuff.

I know I should eat more vegetables and less junk. I need to prepare myself a healthy, affordable shopping list before I go to the store next time.

Not really.
When I was growing up my father constantly paired food with everything fun or used it to make me feel better.
Its stuck around and I can really struggle with it at time, I like good quality food but when I stress I just want as much junk food as I can get in me.

I'm working on it and have gotten A LOT better.

Food used to be a comfort, an enemy, a source of guilt etc..etc.. but I'm working on it just being fuel.
It was ESPECIALLY hard for me to eliminate 1. Stress eating and 2. The connection between eating and watching tv.
Especially with that second one.. it became a huge issue. I would watch tv and out of nowhere get hungry lol that was tough. As for stress eating, it also took a while to shift my body to reacting to stress in a different way.. walking/running has really helped me.

These days..I'm working on thinking of it as FUEL and remembering what I know about nutrition. Would I let my DOG eat all that processed crap? No. So why am I doing it to my body?

I try to eat clean. Whole, natural foods.. nothing processed. Lots of fruits, veggies, chicken, whole grains.. I cook almost everything now. and LOTS OF WATER.

My relationship with food isn't perfect.. I have days where I make food the enemy, I hate my body, I seek food to comfort... but those days are fewer and fewer

There are still some foods that are -- not "comfort" foods, but indulgence foods, that I associate with certain things. It's not just the foods, though, it's where/how I eat them. Wine, good cheese, dark chocolate, some sort of special fruit, like strawberries or fresh pineapple, piled up on the bed with a thousand pillows is for writing.

Ok this is like the third thread today that i swear I've read months ago...

I try to have one, and that's helped by the fact that i am allergic to anything boxed/premade, but not really.. i tend to get hubgry and snack, and even though it's fruit/veggies, its pretty bad

I don't have a healthy relationship with food, but I'm working really REALLY hard to change it!

More fruits, more veggies, less sweets. I've been good with the fruit, but it's hard for me to eat a lot of veggies regularly.
My new motto over the past week, that I read somewhere:
If you're not hungry enough to eat healthy food, then you're really not that hungry.
Which is SO the truth!
My body says I'm hungry. I eat a couple carrots and go bleh, guess I'm not that hungry since there's no donuts around :p

No. I eat quite healthily (very rarely eat premade or fast food or 'junk' like chips), but I overeat/'graze.'

It's really quite depressing how little food I actually need to sustain myself, considering how much I like eating. I can not eat for at all for a day and without feeling hungry. I always tell myself that in a survival situation I'd last for ages :p

Overall decent, but could be better. I have a fast metabolism, and eat a lot. I also have a cast-iron stomach.

I think those two factors are making me not concentrate as much on healthy eating as I should. I love healthy food like veggies and whole grains, and have plenty of those in my diet. I also love to cook and don't like prepackaged foods, so I make fresh food almost daily. My biggest issue is that I need to cut back on the high-fat foods like fried stuff and heavy meats, and replace them with healthier alternatives. It may not be causing me weight problems, but I know it's not good for my body. I can feel a definite difference in the way I feel when I eat healthier. I'm slowly getting better, but I really need to work on my willpower. It's so hard for me to convince myself to have the grilled chicken at a restaurant when I have the option to order the fried.
