Ok, I have a female dog. Her mother was part Chihuahua and Dotson. We do not know what the father was but it most likely was a pug because that is what ours mostly looks like. She is 5 years old.

She was fine yesterday and my mother noticed something odd early this morning.

First off, she can hardly used her back legs. It doesn't seem like she's in pain because you can move them around and she doesn't care.

She is scared to drink water. At first when I tried to give her water she just moved her head away. Now she tries to get up and run. She was taking ice for a little bit but won't anymore.

Her nose is full of snot and she has sneezed some.

She hadn't been barking all day until just now. Some truck drove by.

When she is laying down she sticks her head up in the air and then goes back down. Just a few seconds after that she raises it for a little bit again, and then brings it down.

She is also shivering a bunch.

We thought maybe she has the flu. She hasn't been drinking water and may be week, and maybe she is lifting her head up to keep her nose from running.

I was reading about the stuff online and some of the symptoms are the same as symptoms for a seizure. If she had one, nobody saw.

I was told yesterday when she was fine she tried jumping on the couch and slipped and fail and could have gotten an injury. Best she acted fine yesterday and it still doesn't explain the runny nose.

We are taking her to the vet tomorrow morning. I just wanted to see if anyone had some idea of what could be wrong...I'm very worried...thanks for the help!

edit: She is also trying to sleep now. she will lay down
then left her head and lower it constantly with her eyes closed then it's like she wakes up and she puts her head back down, then starts over. Doesn't even take a minute for this whole process.

It kind of sounds like a spinal issue; dachshunds are notorious for having problems with their back. It's good you're taking her to the vet tomorrow. Sometimes a runny nose can just another symptom of something wrong without being an actual symptom itself, if that makes sense. Like my nose will run when I'm cold or have just eaten something very spicy, but it doesn't mean that I'm sick. But make very sure that you mention the missed jump from the couch. It could be as simple as she pinched a nerve or wrenched her back and some massage and rest with anti-inflammatories will take care of it. It could also be something as severe as a slipped disc, which requires surgery. But I have a suspicion that the fall is a major factor here.

Let us know what the vet says!

Sorry it took me awhile to post, I've been a little busy. We found out that my dog has intervertebral disk disease. The vet said that he thinks it was caught early enough so that it won't be a problem. She is staying there until Monday, and if it does get worse she will need surgery. Thanks again for the replies guys!
