Thought I'd start a new thread here since I was harassed by you-know-who on the Pedigree thread. Anywho... getting ready to pick up my golden baby, Eli, from the vet. He was diagnosed with lymphoma last Thursday night. Did a biopsy today and xrays of his lungs to see what next steps should be. I've already talked to the vet and he said lungs looked pretty good and it hasn't metastized (sp?) yet. Therefore, we may have options. BUT... he's 12 years old and I know chemo doesn't CURE anything with dogs... just gives us more time. I just don't want him to be in pain. He is still his old Eli self... big appetite, runs, plays with Hunter, etc. etc. He's my life. I'll let you know what I find out... :(

OH, that is so sad. I send you my biggest HUGS!! they can do such amazing things these days. Sounds to me like he has a great chance with chemo..since it hasn't spread. We'll all give special prayers for Eli. Keep us posted...and know that there are people here that really, really care.

Serena...that was so totally cruel. Why is it that you have so much anger? There are people here...me...that have just wanted to be your friend, bask in your knowledge and help. You have crossed the line. It is so sad to me because you are someone that has so much to offer. You profess to have a mission to teach people the 'rights and wrongs' of canine treatment. You lack basic communication skills....it amazes me. You flare up and obsess about 'flaming wars' the second someone questions you. You say you won't 'coddle' someone.......well in the emotionally mature world, a person can get their point across without this need to be so abrasive. Listen and hear what I tell you......you may have all the knowledge in the world, but it is lost because your delivery is horrid. This obviously makes you so proud..your anger makes you so proud...your immaturity makes a statement. You have lost respect due to your inablility to convey any of your knowledge and opinion without insult. As far as your thrill at being able to delete someones membership..go ahead. You are never going to be a leader...this little power trip goes to your tiny brain. I have had so much respect for you...it is gone. How dare you be so pathetically mean to someone experiencing such a difficult situation. YOU, my dear, not only make me sick......I realize today that you suffer from some mental disability..YOU are sick. There are other places I can go to for viable dog information without a brazen brat busting in at every opportunity to act like some canine diva. Flame war........YOU wouldn't stand a chance with me. You lack the sophistication. I don't get angry easily....I've had enough of you.

EliNhunter, my heart goes out to you. I've lived through two cat buddies with lymphoma and one - my wonderful Gonzo - with FIV, several years ago before FIV was talked about. You do the best you can for them, give them the best quality of life that you can, and honor their needs when they look you in the eye one day and let you know that the burden is too much to bear.

You don't know how sick you make me when i read your posts. It seems that the only things you want to share is your anger as for the moment i got on this board i see only that from you.
You say you care about the dogs, the animals...well i don't see how you'll make someone hear you and believe you with how you actually say the stuff you say you know...The way you say it,it means nothing to me and everyone else that
read your posts when you answer like that. You know nothing because you don't have the way to convience people to believe in you.Who trusts you when you write like that?
looks to me that you have lots of problems and you just burst out in the forums.
You have no respect..

I totally agree. This is unreal. When I first came to this site I enjoyed reading the questions or the stories people had about their pets and seeing the support everyone gave each other and hearing suggestions others had. Now its like this big war and I read in shock responses like this. The put downs and I dare you's. This has all gotten out of hand.

More sensitive huffy feelings. Ask me if I care? I don't care if I hurt anyones feelings here. I said it before I'll say it again. I only come here because I like animals not because I want inferior pet owners to feel good about themselves.

As far as my knowledge goes past posts are evidence I know exactly what Im talking about. Too bad you can't understand that and want to live in a rose colored world where everyone is nicey nice.
Oh...no worries serena i don't feel hurt!I can't feel hurted from people like you!
I'm sorry Serena but you have misunderstood something you don't talk with the animals here..you talk with people! And by doing what you do,you don't really help the animals...you push away the people that could change things that do wrong...don't tell me then that you are here for the animals because YOU'RE NOT!!!

I'm glad that there are on this board people that actually HELP the animals!

Serena...again your intense immaturity shows. You attack me for asking about a problem. Do you see how you have the inability to teach? My sensitive feelings...how sad, it is you. You cannot answer anything without anger. That tells me you are overly sensitive. You are the one that makes a complete fool of yourself. I think most people would understand my post. You have become a joke. YOU are the one here for entertainment. I won't continue this..you are not worth my time. Feel like you have won if you like..you seem to need that. You seem to have such a need to be the tough guy....well, puff up that chip.

So, everyone....Serena has played the hard ass once again. Let's all pretend she has won and continue with life. LOL LOL

Any response at this point will be totally for my pleasure. I can always..like most people..enjoy a good laugh. For your ability to be a pro at 'flame wars'..........it will be fun for us all.

Why not just leave us stupid peons for some other lucky forum? If you MUST be here...then stay away from me. You can't possibly phase me....and you would have to always picture me laughing at you. I do still feel sorry for you and sad for you.

I'm sorry about your dog. It's a good thing you got him into the vet so early.

To Serena: I feel this post was to help EliNHunter get through a difficult time and get an in-put and support from those who have gone through what he/she is going through, and maybe some helpful information. The Topic is Health......not let's see who or what Serena can put down today. I would call you a "female dog" , but I don't want to put down a wonderful, loving species of animals. Please chill and let those who want knowledge recieve it without going through your hateful posts.

Hi, everyone. I can't tell you how much it means to me to hear from you. I picked up my fuzzy red-headed one today from his day of being biopsied and lung xrayed. His lungs looked pretty clear, so that is good as it hasn't spread there. Next steps are to see what the biopsy says from the pathologist. Not until first of next week, I guess. I already know I don't want to do anything heroic... Just want the next months as pain-free and happy for him as possible. He's still so happy and playing, etc. I'll keep you posted...

Sorry about your dog. You have tried your best to care for this dog and living up to 12 years is not easy. I don't blame you and I don't think it is from the food you feed. It is probably aging and getting more illness just like us when we grow older. Let's start to respect each other. I've been to other forums and you get 3-4 people that will attack you because their so know it all. I choose to stick to this forum because we got so many people here that respect others opinion so let's keep it this way.

I am truly sorry for what you're going through with your dog. It is so hard. I, myself am going through something similar. My almost 14 yr. old Lab has liver failure and has had several seizures as a result. It's terribly upsetting to watch. When her quality of life is bad enough, that it outweighs her enjoyment of life, I too will have to make that heart wrenching decision to spare her further suffering.

I often wonder if the anti-inflamatory I gave her for her arthritis contributed to her liver problem. The vet doesn't think so, because she didn't have much, but it's just a feeling I have and with that feeling comes guilt.

I don't think it was the food that caused anything in your dog. I had dogs live to be 18 and 16 who were raised on Purina Dog Chow. All this about premium food has come up more recently. I do feed a better food now, but honestly, I doubt that has anything to do with your dog's problem.

I have four dogs and one is a Dobmerman Pinscher. They have more than their fair share of health issues. One of those is cancer. It is in their lines, in all the lines. So in most cases, this can be genetics and nothing else. They also are prone to cardiomyopathy. Do you think that everyone whose dog gets these things blames themselves? Of course not. And you shouldn't let anyone's cruel, wicked remarks influence you.

Give your dog the best love and fun you can and when and if your dog gets too unhappy or sick, kiss him good bye and you'll see him in your memories. We all have to go through this. My thoughts are with you.

I think it's atrocious what was said to you and I am suprised that the forum owner would allow this kind of treatment to anyone. But that's not my business. I can choose whether or not I want to visit such a forum.

Hi, Carrie: My heart goes out to you as well. It seems if the retrievers don't go from cancer, it's usually liver or kidneys. Don't beat yourself up. My Eli has been on phemobarbitol for seizures since he was about 2 years old. It does liver damage, but his liver -- although enzymes are a bit high and expected to be, has been fine through his next 12 years. What kind of arthritus meds is he on? Eli's also been on that -- Deramaxx. Been on it for about a year now.

Keep you chin up, as I'm sure we're giving our babies the best life they could have while on this earth and we will see them again at Rainbow Bridge!

Thanks to all on this board who offer such nice support...
Amy and Eli

Bonnie, my Lab was on Rimadyl which was later discovered to be very hard on the liver. She, however only had about 1 or two bottles. Her arthritis isn't too bad. In fact, lately it seems a lot better...not as gimpy.

Actually, the vet said it could be a lot of things that caused the liver problem. We'd have to go through a mirad of tests to find out for sure, MRI's, biopsies, scopes....could be a tumor that is small and of course, didn't show up on the x-rays. But my feeling is at almost 14 years of age, it's not worth putting her through all that.

Thank you for your kind words. I just don't want her to suffer and I want her to have a rip roarin good time for the time she has left. Today she did outside in the snow. She was really tearin' things up. So she does feel good most of the time....for now.

Phenobarbitol can really be nasty stuff to the liver, but it does seem to control seizures pretty well. That is good that your dog did fine on it all this time.

I'll keep your dog in my thoughts and prayers too. This must be hard on you. Cancer is terrible. My brother has a brain tumor and is going down hill very fast also. I hate this...my brother and my dog. Well....(sigh) such is life.
