I think a lot of those dogs on that site are accidental litters and I dont really think that people are actively breeding all the mixes on there.

There was one for a Dalmatian "designer mix", and it was pretty obvious these people had a litter of "oops" puppies and decided they wanted to make $ off of it, so they sold them as a "desinger mix" and put them on that breed site.

So dont get too discouraged, just because it is on the site doesnt mean that people are actively breeding it...

A lot of them probalby came from "oops" litters & now that having a mutt is all the craze, people who got these pups (probably for free) want to feel good now that their mutt is "in style" so they come up with some stupid cutsey name & post the dog on that site....

thats a good point. but still. it just reinforces the idea that a mutt can be a purebred. it just annoys me people breeding mutts on purpose whn so many are in shelters.

I think that depends a bit more on the mutt in question. There are a small number of mutts who have a very good place in our society and are bred for specific purposes.
Although they aren't designer dogs, they are purpose bred so that would be where the distinction lies.

And you shouldn't believe everything you read on Dog Breed Info... if you actually go to the Hybrid club website they have listed, it simply says the first breeder to register the breed gets to name it.
I think a large number of these designer hybrids are just done by one maybe two breeders who have registered the breed crossing incase somebody else thinks of it later... they have just about everything crossed with everything on that website.

Whether the dogs of these "breeds" are accidental or intentional, the first cross especially is just begging for health problems. :(

I would love to answer every ad in the paper and ask about their " odd " breeding ! Of course they know that " puppies $500 " will bring in more than " free accident litter " Stupid buyers !
