I have a friend that I was talking to today. We got to talking about dog food.

One of her dogs, Mic, is eating Science Diet C/D. She really would prefer him to be on a better food, but said he has trouble with his kidneys. He develops Crystals and Struvites in his kidneys and doesn't do well on any of the other foods she's tried. I just left her a voicemail asking her what other foods she's tried since I forgot to ask her that earlier. I'll let you know what she says.

I mentioned to her that I would ask around on Chaz and see if anyone has an idea of what might be a good food for him and will help out with his Crystals and Struvites problem.

Spanky had a UTI, and after treatment, the vet said he still had crystals, and he wanted him to go on that formula of SD. We decided not to.

I switched him to Taste of the Wild, and I give him cranberry pills....although I haven't been giving him the cranberry pills as regularly as I was at the beginning.

So far, no more problems. It's been about 3 months.

The vet had said he might need to stay on SD forever. That we could try it for about 6 weeks, then take him off and see what happened. We never did get it.

He had been on SD for weight loss prior to that, and we had just gotten disgusted with that. We REALLY weren't planning to put him on another one unless we couldn't find another way. I didn't tell the vet I wasn't doing it, and I worried a little bit that he would go right back into another UTI, but that didn't happen.
