I also am slightly worried about next dog, I am torn btw rescuing a dog (I am guilty of daily petfinder browsing ) and going with a reputable breeder.

I want to rescue a bully mix for next dog but I have one dog, it's one of my folk's dogs but next dog will be interacting with her because by that time I will be moved out here permanently so it will be a while. She is the only one I am worried about, the other dogs are well socialized and know how not to push other dogs buttons.

I have a similar problem, except I won't be moving out in the foreseeable future (health related). My parent's dog,Zane, is a bully mix who is really DS and as a rule does not like adult dogs. My Abby (GSD X Boxer) is so-so with adult dogs, but LOVES to groom/lick/mother dogs that are younger or lower int he pecking order. We also have a lot of cats (parents 2 (plus a stray we are taking care of right now),+ my 3 (all the result of dumped pregnant mamas) and I definitely need a puppy I can sort of "mold" to my environment.

In general I need a 10-30lb dog, no DA tendencies, no high prey drive and reasonable energy level. Also, no professional grooming needed. Hopefully getting a pup, even with prey drive, will make it easier with the cat situation. Abby learned early (Annoy Cat=Pain from the sharp parts).

My Cardi is prey driven and you should see her fly while lure coursing. That said, she has no problem with cats whatsoever. Her breeder also kept rats and said her dam had no problem distinguishing between rats that were family and small rodents that were pests.

IOW, I think a Cardi raised with cats will be absolutely fine.

Do be aware that they will be at the upper end of your weight range if not over. Mine is ~25 lbs lean and hard, and at the bottom end of the weight range given in the AKC standard. Males can be 40 lbs +. I prefer the smaller dogs myself but they do get up there in size.
