Cool valuable book find!

I'm slowly trying to rebuild my Stephen King 1st edition library, and my daughter knew I didn't have Carrie yet, she found a hardcover at the local thrift store in decent shape, dust jacket has some tears and wear... She did not know if it was worth anything or even was a 1st.. but gambled on it for a few bucks...

It IS a first and It's worth in its condition 5-750 dollars!!!

The only problem with the worth is that you'd have to sell it... (Something I have a hard time doing with my books, I find it really hard to part any of them. So I just keep building more shelves. )

I won't sell it, unless I have to at some point.... There are at least two King books in 1st edition I'll likely never own unless I find them at a yard sale or thrift store where the person hasn't a clue what they have....

One is Rage, an out of print book originally written under the pen name of Bachman, the other is the true 1st edition of The Shining

I am the total opposite, I have to get rid of books as soon as I am done reading them. The only book I will keep is KingsNight Shift book because every few years I pull it out and read it again. Ever since I got a kindle I never have books around. I read a lot and hate clutter so the kindle is perfect for me. My father in law is a big reader and he gives me his books after he reads them and now I just donate them on the way home from his house, I don't even bring them into my house anymore. If I didn't take them from him, his house would be like one of those hoarders houses.

My bookcase is in the hallway, it's huge but in a wasted space tucked out of sight for the most part, I don't keep every book I read, just King, Grisham, Picoult and a few others, some like my Kings/ Grisham I am intentionally trying to build a collection of first editions, others like my complete Black Stallion series, Misty of chincoteague, Little House and so on are sentimental and some are dog eared and well read as I've had them since I was very young

I love my books, they make me smile when I walk by...

I like jodi picoult too. I am weird, I take my father in law to Barnes and Noble every Sunday and take pictures with my phone of books I want to read then go home and check Amazon for sales. I get so many free books from Amazon it's amazing. I also really like true crime stories, my father in law is really into them and gives me bags of them at a time. I used to save them to read, but it was too much so now I don't even bring them home. I don't have as much time to read as I used to when the kids were little but this winter I did get more reading time in than the last few years.

One thing I do save is my Waltons cd collection. It brings back so many memories of watching the Waltons with my dad as a kid.

I've got most of the Black Stallion books, as well as Marguerite Henry's books (all hard cover). I also have most of Albert Payson Terhune's collie books, and I tend to collect illustrators - Paul Brown, CW Anderson, Wesley Dennis. I look for the hard cover editions of favorite books, wherever I can find them. St. Louis has a pretty big book fair every spring - runs four or five days, and prices are pretty reasonable.

We have book cases all over the house. My book interests vary - I've got a nice collection of horse and dog books (mostly reference - training, breeds, health, photography, psychology, etc., as well as novels); reference/regional books on flora and fauna (I like to identify whatever I'm taking photos of, whether it's birds, butterflies, dragonflies, wildflowers, shells, etc); biographies, science fiction, murder mysteries, historical novels, regional history, poetry, history (Sis is a Civil War buff) and the original novels that inspired favorite movies.

I tend to cycle through a few series (Horatio Hornblower, James Herriot, Harry Potter, Dragonriders of Pern, Lord of the Rings) every five/ten years or so. They're old friends...
