Pretty much what the title says. Found a website of vintage postcards and pics from the gold rush days. I have to say the dogs look different than how I imagined.

I really like the Malamute Chorus, lol!

Those are neat! It shows such a wide range of dogs that were used...

Well there are two pictures of huskies... Maybe the others were stolen like Buck in Call of the Wild or a least brought up from the south to meet demand? I guess it would've been hard to meet the demand for huskies on (relatively) short notice.

Interesting pics at any rate...I always envisioned "Balto" or something along those lines, interesting to see the different breeds. I like the one of the guy panning and the little dog... I mean that's about as good a life as a dog could have, in the wilderness with its "person" all day long.

Very cool! People always picture the Husky types, but sled / eskimo type dogs were all kinds of mixes. Like most dogs that were bred for work and not appearance, the appearance varied quite a bit. Those are neat pics, thanks for posting them!

Yeah, it's really interesting to me too. My sister lives in Fairbanks and she has what she claims is a sled dog. I always thought he looked like a large boned lab mix. He looks identical to the 2nd and 3rd black dogs in the 4th picture, so maybe she wasn't fibbing after all. :p
