Okay I know that you have you buffs, silvers, partis, and black and tans. But I have seen some American Cocker Spaniels that look almost identical to Lady from Lady and the Tramp. With the light redish brown body and dark brown ears and sometimes circles around the eyes. I was wondering what color that is considered and how do you get it? Is it rare? I am just curious I think its a pretty neat coat color.

Kinda like this but with out or less white.

Colors that are not currently recognized with the AKC are becoming more and more popular, including roans, sables (probably more of what you're looking for), and merles

There are merles, roans, Parties with ticking (freckles), They come in a variety of colors.
When looking for a cocker stay away from Penny Creek lines.

What color or colors are you looking at that strike your fancy?

I may be able to help you locate a good breeder who has what you are looking for.

I didnt want to down her online but here it goes.
I was going to become a breeder and was going to have her mentor me. I went to her home to check things out and she had at least 50 dogs and pups.
She does show and does do her clearances but I am concerned with that as well. I happen to see her at our vet office and she was getting a second opinion on a hip exam. None of the techs at our vet office like her. She goes into the room and holds the dogs hips in so they will pass thier hip certification. Thats a big no NO!
I also talked to a couple of out of state breeders and they dont like her as well. I will quote," she is trying to populate the whole world with her dogs'.
She is high class puppy mill. Im not impressed at all. Jim wasnt either. He went with me to check out her place. I have never seen a reputable breeder with 50 dogs and constant multiple litters.
And her so called rescue dogs are usually pups of her own that didnt pass a certification and calls them rescues because they were returned.
    That is why.

Any breeders that are breeding for these rare and incorrect colors should be HIGHLY looked into and researched before ever considering them. In cockers, you WILL find responsible breeders that do breed the sables, and sometimes the merles and roans, but more than often the breeders are simply breeding them for the money and the sake of them being "rare".

    Watch out, do your research.

Sables use to be allowed to show, but then the color became a fault(i'm guessing the dogs of this color where doing to much winning so the standard was changed)
