Hi, everyone, I am writing this on behalf of my latest member of our family. Gavin is a 5 year old cocker/poodle mix, I just adopted him today from our local Humane Society. He is in rather good health and a plump little boy but he seems to have some sinus problems. I noticed when I first found him that his nose is really rough with a "califlower" texture to it. It is very dry also. Since we have had him home, we have noticed that he pants quite a bit. At times he will breathe through his nose but not for very long. When he does, it isn't so much a congested sound but you can hear the moisture in there. His nose tends to run a bit but nothing major. I was just wondering if anyone has had anything similar to this? I have checked online and seen several comments about small nasal passages in several breeds of dogs and some about sinus congestion. I am going to take him to the vet tomorrow and get this checked out but thought I would come here first. Other than that, Gavin is a wonderful dog, very attentive, extremely affectionate. He has had a string of bad luck with being adopted since he doesn't like small kids but he is here to stay with us, as long as he will have us. Thanks for any comments... take care.. Tina and Gavin:p

Congrats on your new family member! Do you have any pictures?

I wouldn't worry about it... I'm thinking he probably just caught a virus or something while at the shelter, and your vet should be able to give you some medication. Keep us posted!

I have a picture of him but I am new to this site and haven't figured out how to attach it on here... he is a difficult boy to get a good clear picture of since he is solid, jet black. This picture I got of him, all you see is a black figure with a pink tongue, lol. :) He is so happy here, all evening, he has been going from one lap to another. A wonderful companion for us all. I chose him mainly because of his sweet personality. There were 3 dogs there that I was trying to choose from and in order to solve that problem, I asked the people working there, of the three, which is going to be put down first. Gavin has been there since 12/21 so they said he would be the first to go. That was enough for me. I had to save this sweet little boy. Turns out he likes anything that is in a Walmart sack.. lol
